$30 at the PLCB stores? That's the same price as the (regular) rate for Tully 10 yr. Jump on it! I got a bottle of 12yr from a store in San Francisco in May and have been afraid to drink any more of it because my local PLCB stores don't carry it as a regular stock item.

I've tried it but can't remember exactly what it was like  but I do remember it was not bad at all, just richer ... you have to remember with Tullamore Dew that they are designed to be approachable easy drinkers but that does not mean they have nothing to offer. At that price you cannot turn your back on it ... ;)

Tullamore is quite under rated but with the new line up much more to offer these days. I think we kind of forget aboutr Tully due to the fact that the regular Blend was the sole long standing bottle for such a long time and was seen as a very light easy drinkable blend. How they have turned the brand around in a few years.

The 12 is much closer to the Jamesons, I think. Not nearly as good as the Jameson 12, but still pretty nice. Big step up from the standard Tullamore Dew.

yea Ace, i live in PA. starting 8/23 the tullamore 12yo went on sale for $29.99 for 750ml. original price is $35.99 ace, check the lcb website. just google pa wine and spirits and it should pop up. you can do a search for certain items in a county and it will show you which stores carry it.

thanks IWC. good info as always. tully is just that...a very nice smooth whiskey. i have to admit, i rarely drink the standard anymore. not because it is offensive, but because i crave a whiskey with more depth these days. i was hoping the tully 12 would be up there with jameson/powers 12 and have a more sherried pure pot still taste. at $30 i guess i cant go wrong,

im curious if the black is going to make an appearance in the states. would really like to try it

Yeah they allegedly have it in stock at a premium store near me, but every time I check the availability online it is listed as out of stock! I may need to place an order with PALCB for some more Powers 12yr so I may ask them to throw in a bottle of Tully 12 for me.

I agree with John M the 12yo is a close jameson relation - not as good as the 12yo Jameson but a close but slightly less interesting cousin.

(Reading that sentance back to myself it has all sorts of strange connotations - but you get my meaning.)

I'm no fan of the standard Tully, I find it very harsh, and I didn't like the 10yo Malt - I like the whiskeys that went into it but they didn't work together for me - so the 12yo is really the only one I'd drink. Not the most exciting whiskey but a grand pot still blend.

I was a bit disappointed by the 10yo malt too, being a fan of the component Tyrconnells (well, not the sherry so much, so maybe that's what threw off the combo).

There's also a 10yo blend, isn't there? I haven't tried it.

I like all 3 Tyrconnells - the madeira is the favourite but they're all good. I really really didn't like that 10yo Tullamore Dew malt - it doesn't really make sense - I'm going to vat the 3 tyrconnells soon for comparison. I think you're right about the 10yo blend but I've never tasted it.

yea, there are 2 10yo's. the blend and malt. i heard neither are really worth the extra money over the NAS. i am interested in the 12yo though. already have a jameson 12yo distillery and special reserve. this is off topic, but does anyone know if its legal to ship opened bottles from ireland to america? my entire collection is still in ireland with my wife. shes not due over for a few months and i dont think its legal to bring opened bottles on the plane. this could be a major dilemma.

I can pop up and help her empty them and then you'll have no problem getting the bottles over :P

How many bottles have you got??? and how is your wife getting her stuff over to the states. Obviously on the plane but is she olanning taking a suit case or 6 or is she getting a crate done up? In all fairness you probably could maybe get only 2 bottles into a suit case to be on the safe side just make sure she tapes down the tops with decent tape i.e. the thick banded brown stuff or there is a posiblity of spilages. Baggage gets treated fairly roughly in airports.

haha, to be honest i would rather you go take them off her. it will cost an arm and a leg to ship them over. and if she carries, they will probably bust. not to mention the extra money she will be charged for extra bags... when its all said and done, i could have probably bought again over here. plus i would omit some from ever buying again. jura10, ardmore, bowmore legend

lets see, here is the list of stuff i have:

talisker 10
laphroaig 10
highland park 12
ardmore highland peated single malt (not sure of age)
jura 10
bowmore legend
jameson 12 special reserve
jameson 12 distillery reserve
redbreast 12
powers 12
blackbush
tyrconnell 10 sherry cask

all around 1/2 full...give or take a bit.

just pulled the trigger on the tullamore dew 12 year old. i see what you guys mean when you say it falls short of the jameson 12. its a lovely whiskey, but is lacking that extra bit i am looking for in a 12 year old. its got the classic pure pot still blend taste of spicy, woody, nutty with a hint of vanilla/honey. its almost like they tried to make it more approachable than the powers/jameson 12. i would definitely buy it again if it was on sale though. the lack in taste explains why its a tenner less than the jameson. i really wish tullamore would get in the game a bit more.....

I think we'll a lot more push on Tullamore over the coming years with Grants taking over - I'd hope so anyway though the Bushmills range has actually contracted a bit since Diageo took over - no single casks!

I think you may be right there on the Tully .... in regards to Bushmills I get the feeling that they are trying to consolidate and possibly an extra push in the States to grow their core range other than that they are very quite and as you say a shame we don't see too many cask strength or single casks coming out :(
