Was in The Bull and Castle in Christchurch today

Old Redbreast 12 (80-s bottling) for 5.50

i asked the barman for the price and he checked on the till and he said 5.50,i do not think he know that this bottle is worth about 250-300, but i was happy with the price, so i have ordered a regular redbrest 12 as well and done a side by side tasting
it was interesting to see the color of them and the taste was funny of the oldone, taste like having water when i hold it on my tongue and had a funny finish what i cannot discribe

i asked him to sell me the remaining of the bottle, but he said no off sale :(

so if someone wants to try them side by side, hurry up there, becouse there is not much left in the oldone

I'd like to applaud The Oval (Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1) for their €3.90 standard whiskeys. I haven't seen better in Dublin.

It's about a year ago now but I did get Jameson 15yo PPS for €9 a measure in Paddy Burke's in Clarinbridge. No idea if it's still there. Maybe someone closer can investigate.

I've tried the whiskey you're talking about. I know the aftertaste you mean, and from memory there's a bit of the same thing of some in the other old PPSs. It's a kind of musty aftertaste. I think I read somewhere that by the time some of the last of these old Redbreasts were bottled they were in cask a lot longer that 12 years and some of them were past their best. The old label dates from when the brand was owned by Gilbeys and they were bottling old stock long after Jameson and later Midleton had stopped supplying them with casks. In fact, I'm not sure if any of there stock ever came from Midleton or if it's all old Jameson stuff from Dublin. It was bottled as a 12yo in the 80's but was probably older. Jameson ceased production and moved to Midleton in the 70's, as far as I know.

John M will know! Are you out there John??

That's what I understand, but I'm not sure. I heard that they used older stock in the Redbreast for a while.

Maybe Irish Distillers were not supplying them with the best stuff at this stage? This is just a guess.

Selected Super Values ... Powers Gold €15.99

I nearly fell over when I saw it ...

This must be selling for well under cost price. Especially when you consider that the Vat on that would be €2.83 and duty on that is over €10 so less than €3 to cover production costs and other costs

Hello all from Kilkenny. I have just discovered some bottles of The Balvenie Founders Reserve in the store. Considering that the bould Mr Murray - the other one - not me, states that this will be discontinued I think that Euro43.99 is a good price. There is a case or so left on the shelf. Regards Liam in The Wine Centre.

A local Galway Supermarket is quick off the mark with the €2.76 deduction.

They had Bushmills White at an amazing €17 now €14.23

And Hennessey Brandy @ €25 now €22.23 not whiskey I know but an indication of price drops.

Hi all I was reading some of your posts about a 10 year old redbreast whiskey from Gilbeys. I have a 12 year old redbreast whiskey from Gilbeys and wondered if it would creat much interest, the lable is damaged but it can be clearly read as "Redbreast Rare Old Irish Whiskey" and there is a screw cap and not a cork but it is still sealed. I look forward to hearing from you, Connell.

Buying online is also a great way to have good whiskeys but low price. But make sure that the shipping fee is low or free. So that you can really save some money.
