CWS Christmas Bottlings

An 18 yr old single cask Connemara, which I think might be in today, and an 18 yr old Tyrconnell...

You really have your finger on the Pulse this week John

Thanks for letting us know ...

Hopefully the Tyconnell is as good as the 17yo

But could it possibly be as good as THE 17.5 YO bottling? ;)

By the way John have you heard whether he's doing a Midleton single cask this year?

They weren't sure they were getting one, last I heard, but that was a good while ago. I didn't hear mention of one when I was there.

Apparently a new Midleton single cask is on its way, unfortunately it appears costs have gone up so could be as much as €225, on the plus side I believe it will bear the Midleton label, unconfirmed as of yet

Do you have any details on it, WB? Will it be a pot still again? Any age?

I don't have any details but as far as I know it will be another pure pot still single cask, I believe the whole package looks even better this year!!!

It's a 13 Year-Old 46%ABV NCS PPS branded as Midleton with a nice case - that's the good news...

The bad news is that IDL want a RRP of €225.00 per bottle!!!

Here's hoping there's a decent-sized IWS discount...

It's making the Turf Mór look cheap again. Or maybe there is a standard price of about €50 per 3 years maturation.

What is it though ... Bourbon, Sherry ?????

Just noticed that it is listed at €200 on the CWS website ... which is the introductory discount.

I think it'll be a Cooley-Only Christmas for me this year, barring a colossal discount on the PPS Midleton  .

The 18-YO Connemara should be interesting as this year it's the first pure Bourbon wood offering. :D

I wonder what the Tyrconnell 18  will be like? Or the Greenore 18 (46% NCF :D) for that matter?

Midleton Distillery 13 Year-Old 46%ABV NCF PPS branded as Midleton RRP of €225.00 per bottle

Vs.

Midleton Distillery 15 Year-Old 46%ABV NCF PPS branded as Redbreast RRP of €67.49 per bottle

The packaging would want to be exceptional at the very least!!

I'm still pretty stunned by the price of Turf Mór ...I'll probably get one but don't think it'll be a regular occurance at that price but it may mature over the next few years. I'm all for paying for quality but I also have a dim view of the fashion of charging over the odds for barely made whiskey not matter how good it is.

I'm sorry you should be trying to instill a major following in a product and a 3yo whiskey keenly priced is a perfect oppertunity which I fear Cooley are totally missing out on. Laphroaig has done it with the Quarter Cask so why can't the Irish Whiskey industry follow suit instead of following the few like Adrbeg and Bruichladdich which over charge for their products.

I really need to go on a 2 week holiday to see if Mr Cranky will take a back seat but I fear even that is not enough.

Looking forward to the Tyrconnell 18yo though  .

I agree with Mr Cranky (not Mr Krankie, God help him) re the price of Turf Mór.

The Connemara 18 should be interesting as it's the first release of this age to be completely Bourbon-matured.

Roll on The Tyrconnell 18! :D

Another Cooley this year for the CWS, before Christmas. The second cask we tasted a few years ago at the distillery.

The emptied first cask has been filled with Greenore.

They have a good few more casks on the go too, including Madeira... and expect a special Knappogue at some stage too.

There is a taster pack of the new single pot stills arriving soon from what i've read

http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/mag ... 09749.html

It will also be in the Loop.
Is there any chance they will give us a web shop so we can get our hands on some of the exclusive bottles without having to leave the country.
I'm all into shop local lately!!Mainly because i can't afford a holiday away

I'm afraid regulations prevent the Travel Retail Sector selling directly into the country, if you're not traveling yourself ask a friend nicely, if the're travelling within the EU they can conveniently purchase on a fly and collect on their return.

What would be the reason for such a regulation? The shop has no special status when selling to EU-bound passengers so I'm not seeing the rationale for preventing sales to non-travellers.

My understanding, is the concession for Travel Retail is unique and location specific as the audience is 'captive' and therefore not open to competition from others.
