Whiskey & Cheese

Postby DavidH » Tue Aug 24, 2010 1:06 pm

I posted this teaser on the mailing list earlier...

Our Thursday meeting is going to be an exciting one. If you are not there, here's what you will be missing...
  • An exclusive preview of an Irish whiskey not yet on sale!
  • Surprising new information on whiskeys you may have overlooked.
  • Irish whiskeys not generally available in Ireland.
  • Eight of Ireland's best farmhouse cheeses, two of which we will sample in the presence of the maker himself.
Sounds good? Don't delay, grab your spot!

Hi David,

A little birdie gave me a sneak preview of what you have on offer tonight.

It sounds like a fantastic line-up, wish I was there tonight, but sadly (gladly) still on holidays.

So I wish you well on your debut tonight, remember their is no one style so put your own stamp on it tonight.

Knock em dead....

I know that birdie :-)

I think it's safe to say it will be my own style of presentation!

I will write up the practical aspects of it, ie what whiskey was matched with what cheeses and some details on the whiskey. Later today I'll also update the event page with the whiskey table (and a cheese table).

I can't really judge how it went but I think at least that people were happy with the selections of cheese and whiskey, and that it wasn't entirely outrageous to put them together :-)

I have the various lists and photos up now on the event page. I hope to write something more descriptive on the whiskey & cheese matching over the weekend.

Meant to say this earlier - what a wonderful night!
Genuinely informative, enlightening, surprising and all round a taste sensation.
We must do it again sometime.

Glad you liked it!

I've been gradually writing it up on my blog...
Whiskey & cheese?
Whiskey & cheese pairings

Please excuse the appearance of my blog at the moment. I switched it to a new template this week so it's an ugly hybrid of what was there and someone else's design.

Excellent write up david really enjoyed it and it made me a bit jealous that I could not make it, sounds like a really successful night. I do like my cheese and have often had cheese with my whiskey. Still a bit wary of goats cheese though but the second one sound interesting so might give that a go.

Something for the Galway chapter, perhaps? If you get a good local cheese shop behind it you might be able to scare up a crowd.

Whisky & cheese generally work well together, but you do have to be a little careful with the pairing. It sounds like your evening went pretty well!

Appropriate in title only, it definitely would not recommend this title.

I haven't seen it. Quite an odd title, with the Irish whiskey afterthought.

Clearly an author who didn't like Scotland or Wales.
