Let's talk whiskey.

Whisk(e)y origins... article

Postby JohnM » Mon Dec 26, 2011 5:23 am

Ok, I've edited my own post I don't know how many times... So I'll rewrite it...

This recent article in the Indo contains the usual errors - http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/foo ... 72679.html

However, the big one seems to be about reindeer skins found by the Liffey that suggest that they were triple-distilling whiskey in Ireland in pre-Christian times. I believe the source is a March 2002 Whisky Magazine article by Barry Walsh. Now I'm pretty sure it's an April Fools' Day article. The main character in it is called Pah-Dee... I must admit I fell for it myself the first time, not knowing the date of the article. Maybe journos should contact the Irish Whiskey Society before they publish this kind of stuff.

They could apply some logic too. or even contact an archaeologist and ask if skin could survive in moist soil for 2000 years.
Hacks eh.............

At Whisky LIve, I believe Barry Crockett said he'd received some very interesting information that dates Irish whiskey... I wonder what that was.

Maybe Leo translated the L-code on the reindeer skins for him...

saw another blooper in the indo today while sitting on the train. not nearly as major, just an offer to the best letter section writer for three bottles of Tyrconnell Pure Pot Still whiskey. I supose thats an old battle though and one that should probably have died with the name itself
