Last night finished off Cadenheads Springbank 1991 (12yo) 56.6%

My next whiskey will be the Crown Royal XR. It is the last batch of rare whiskies from the Waterloo distillery which burned down in 1993. A nice piece of whiskey history and a triumphant batch of whiskey available for a limited time, I believe. Get your hands on some as quick as you can.

Heard so great reports on that release all right. Love to get to try it and possibly will.

Sitting in tonight ... Started with a Jameson RVR ... Very very nice ... Now on to the old Bushmills 1608 and this is a bush that never really worked for me but I must a admit this is much better than I remembered. Not sure it is still good enough to become a favourite though.

A bit late posting now maybe, but still; On St. Patrick's Day I enjoyed a brace of Inishowens on the actual Inis Eoghain (Inishowen) peninsula itself! Ballyliffin to be precise. Very nice they were too - after a LONG drive

I just opened a pair of Cooleys for an online Irish whiskey tasting on wwwforum this coming weekend.

Connemara Single Cask 4332 46%. I can't fault it - delicious.

Connemara Cask Strength 57.9%. A slight varnish on the palate at first, but fades with the second sip. I had this bottling before, love it.

I've had a bottle of Tullamore Dew at home for a few years but always moved it aside for something more "fashionable" until last night where I said ok buddy let's see how raw your going to leave my throat. To my amazement I must say that apart from a spicy burst on initial taste that there was little of the coarseness that I was expecting. According to the 2011 Whiskey bible the recent bottlings are smoother but this is at least 6 years old - interesting!?
Back to the dram itself, I really thought that this was a fantastic whiskey that had plenty of pot still character in it much like Powers but maybe the finish wasn't as good as Powers but still I am looking forward to taking it out again tonight and I recommend it heartily to anyone like myself how thought they were to cool to "Dew".

I'd tried a sample previously, this is my first full bottle. It's gets better with each session, i don't know if that's the whisky breathing or my taste buds response to the whisky becoming more appreciative, but i'm looking forward to the next session. I'm a bit lazy with the note taking these days, but if i take any i'll post them up.

A classic, the standard Jameson. Spine tingling barley and grain with that hard edge. Moments of complexity, but an uneventful ( short ) finish. A great pub whisky though - one of the best.


Jamesons Gold Reserve. A step up on the standard. More complex and oakier. Oddly full of coffee straight after the standard.


Connemara Single Cask 4332 46%. Put into cask 4.9.92 and bottled 25.6.08. Typical Connamara with fruit and peat, quite Ardbegish. Imo.


Connemara Cask Strength 57.9%. Quite a serious initial hit, i always get that varnish note at first, a pleasant one. Good stuff.

Tyrconnell 5 star

Finished my Madeira Cask Tyrconnell at the weekend, very sad to see it go (but still something satisfying about finishing a bottle!) lovely whiskey.
Had a Jameson, Bushmills 10yo Malt and a Tyrconnell Malt but none came close to the Madeira.

Any one recommend which Lockes to buy to get the collection going?

Either of the Lockes' Grand Crew's or the Premier Crew would be an excellent addition zenmonk. Fantastic drinks selected by our own Society members!

As John said above or they still have some of the Limited Editions down in the Kilbeggan Distillery shop, comes in a wooden box and nice scroll.

For drinking the Locke's 8yo is a lovely lightly peated whiskey.

Yep the Lockes 8yr Single Malt is a lovely Whiskey.

The Kilbeggan that is on special in Tesco's for €15 is also quite nice as well.

Taking inspiration from IWC I've been trying to finish off some of the many open bottles. Anything that's down to 1/4 fill or less and that I don't want I've been blending but drinking wise I've put away in the last week or so:

Greenspot 10yo
Jameson RVR
Knappogue 12yo.

All good friends who will be sadly missed.

Redbreast 15 (what a massive whiskey) followed by a Green Spot which went down very easily afterwards!

Just having my last dram of the Jameson 15 y.o. pure pot still. Its just a great one! I am happy to have another bottle .
Next one waiting in the Line is the Jameson 12 y.o. Distiller`s Selection. Also very power full but different! Great how you get out the 43%.
Why not make more off this stuff?

Booker's Bourbon 62.45%. Lovely big explosion of flavour fills the senses with immediate effect.

Berry's Own Selection Cragganmore 1997 58.3%. Complex, oak and honey with that light peatsmoke.
