I'm working beside Deveney's now... They sell a smoked beer, but I can't remember its name. Anyway, it's not for me.

How are you getting on with the new arrival?

Whisky whisky whisky forum Tamdhu 26. The best Tamdhu ever.

One last Laphroaig 13 OMC. An oaf of a whisky, and that'll do.

OK, i know i said the 1973 is superb, but i did not had the 20th anniversary that time 8-)

for those real sherry lovers the 1973 would be the real deal, but for me, who like the sweety tastes more than dry sherry, the 20th Anniversary is the winner ;)

i guess this is a blend, but only 400 bottles was released, and as it says on the label and on the cert in box, they have used "some of the original oak casks" which have held the first Midleton very rare, so i guess the youngest whiskey in it is about 13-14 years old and only a few knows what else is in this, but i can not get any of the old pot still character in this, like the 1973

i would say there is some old bourbon in it, which gives it's sweaty character and long finish

it is 53%, but very drinkable and i would not destroy this with water

i am happy with my decision to open this bottle, and partly agree with the premiun brand manager of IDL who said, these whiskeys are made to be drunk and not to collect.

i love this, but also have 7 more for the collecion, so i am a happy fellow either way

got to taste one of the finest Irish whiskey, and still have some investment in liquid gold

i only have one more thing to do :!:

i have to shake Barry Crockett's hand ;)

...taste even better from the Waterford crystal tumbler provided in the box...

my suggestion;

buy it if you can, you will love it too

Over the Christmas I have been enjoying:

Redbreast 15yo '05 batch. Still one of the most excellent whiskeys I have ever tasted.
Balvenie 21yo Portwood. Beautiful nose and a deep, full-bodied palate. Wonderful stuff.
Highland Park 'Saint Magnus' 12yo. Younger than it's predecessor but I am a fan of HP and this certainly didn't disappoint.

Good quality whiskeys enjoyed with good friends and family!
Cheers,
John.

Edit 07/1/11: Sorry, just realised that Balvenie produce both a 40% as well as a 47.5% 21yo Portwood! It was the 47.5% version, i.e. the NCF one, that I opened over the Christmas.

Starting off the night with an Amrut fusion.

Lovely sweet malt - biscuity with some peat. Very nice.

The rather sour Highland Park 12 BF 50%. But with diligence i finished it.
Yoichi 12.

Cooley 13 Cadenhead's 60.6%. A favourite.

Cooley 14 Cadenhead's 58.7%. A sample courtesy of John. A fine whiskey similar to the 13 above but flawed by a 'heated' finish.

Connemara Single Cask 17yo. Thanks again John. Cooley really know what they're doing with this whiskey malarkey.

This is one of my personal favourites. Sometimes I have it and just think it's okay, but other times I think it's brilliant - actually most of the time I think it's brilliant. The Connemara 17, that is.

Forum Etiquette

Postby IrishWhiskeyChaser » Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:33 pm

Hi All, Can I ask people who are sampling whiskies over a period of the same night/day and are kindly posting about same to please edit your previous post if your last post is still the most current. 3 or 4 1 liner posts from the same member detracts from the thread visually ... One post should suffice as this is common forum etiquette and should be taken into consideration. Feel free to place an edit time on the post just so as peole don't think your throwing them back ;)

Cheers

Sounds good, IWC

On the whole, I'm glad to see the back of 2010. In a fit of ridiculous optimism, I am starting 2011 as I mean to go on. I have here a glass of the original Redbreast 15yo and damn nice it is too. The last one I had was at a society meeting but that was the new bottling and not the same at all. I'm getting the same thing I got the first time I tried it, in Ally's shop way back when: a sweet orange marmalade finish. Very pleasant.

Does it? Looking back over recent pages i fail to see a problem. Seems to me that members have 'self-regulated' on this issue, or am i missing the point.

You wouldn't see a problem if it had already been tidied up.

This is a poor value thread if it's just an endless list of whiskeys, one per post, without commentary. Posters should think of the audience and how to make it easier and more valuable to read. It's not just a way of boosting post counts.

Last night I had some Ben Nevis 10. Not bad at all. Got it as a gift. I'd been spoiling myself lately with good whisky, so it suffered in comparison.

Tonight I might try it against the Ben Nevis 25, which is very good.

Oh, i didn't realise posts were altered on forums in that way.

I can only speak for myself and my posts were all genuine and honest and not a way of boosting my post count.

No doubt about it!

I don't post on this thread much (pretty unexciting stuff I'm drinking at home, if anything) but I do like to read what others are up to. So please keep going, everyone!
