It seems Adrian is trying to teach you that some folk can get a bit too excited about it ;)

The first week of January The group of Friends from New York State come to florida for the winter. This group consists of a couple of sisters and a cousin. The maiden names are ENNIS and ISLES. I havent seen them since my teen years and I'm 69 years old.
Could someone please teach me a christmas greeting in Gaelic so i can show off a bit to them.

It will also be a nice thing to learn.

I can say boun natale
and Feliz NAVIDAD but thats it for me.

If someone has the time, i would like to try to learn a new way of saying HAPPY CHRISTMAS :D :D

It's a good thing-- The season brings out a lot of good in people . May it last all year

last night, the folks in our mobile home park did something called a christmas walk. 20 people started at the clubhouse and visited 13 diferent trailers where they were greeted with decorations, snacks and a libation or 2 here and there.

This link contains some photos of the groups wanderings--i hope yall find them a bit enjoyable

Nollaig shona duit (to one person)
Nollaig shona daoibh (to more than one person)

(For those who know the language: I checked this online but I'm more inclined myself to use dhuit and dhaoibh. It sounds better to my ear.)

Don't try to pronounce those as if they were English. You won't get close that way. Here's a guy saying one of them:

If you use 'daoibh' instead of 'duit' it is pronounced 'yeev'.

David be gone with your Connemara Irish :P

Munster Irish is the way to go ... as it easier to say and understand for all dialects.

I'm sure Cathach will have somethinng to say about this though ;)

The easiest yet acceptable way to pronounce it would be ...

Null-ig hona dit

of

Null-ig hona deev

"Feile na Nollag"

A somewhat Americanized version from my older relatives. Simple enough, works for us.

I also go with Nollaig shona duit.

Spelling Irish can be hopeless sometimes LOL

While we're on the subject...

For those into pre-Christian December stuff, this year's Yule / Midwinter (December 21) was great! A full lunar eclipse, a Full Moon Esbat, and a Yule Sabbat all in one! The first time this happened since 1638.

Where the Yule Log tradition comes from, btw.

Well, of course that's the translation.
When Oliver returns after Christmas I'm sure he'll correct my German, but it's something like "zwischen den Jahres".
