I finally got the top of a sample of Glenlivet Nadurra 16, bottled 2008. It really is superb. I'll have to buy a bottle.

Thanks Leo...

Tasted this at Whisky live and was not overly impressed but had some of Leo's too and really liked it. Just goes to show that whisk(e)y really does change depending on your form.

Currently enjoying a Tullamore Black 43 or is that Tullamore 43 Black ?!?!?!?

Anyway I think this would be a good pub drop except for the price.

I've tried a few batches of the CS version. The latest i have i opened a couple days ago, as usual it's faultless. Batch 0410J, £32 with a voucher from Waitrose - bargain. I opened it the day i bought it, couldn't resist.

I had an order pending from the whisky exchange, so I got them to add this to it, as it hadn't been processed - http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-12205.aspx

Is this the batch you've tried?

Yes. April 2010 54.4%. It says this is the third batch which i didn't know that, so i've tried all three. I haven't tried the 48%. I'm not so keen on Glenlivet, apart from these, ncf and nc, you'll enjoy this one i think it's the best of the three ( on first impression ).

That's exactly what I said to Z recently - would love to drink it in a pub with a pint.

Lagavulin 16. Now, i must sat firstly that i like Lagavulin, the 12yo CS is a great dram, but i've seriously gone off the 16yo. Beneath the cloying e150 there is a great whisky, but is subdued and numbing. My living bottle ( that i am now drinking ) is far superior, and that shouldn't be the case.

I would have to agree with you that Lagavulin in the last few years has really lost a lot of it's big carachter & now is more of a muted flavour however I'm not sure I go along with the E150 arguement. Such minute amounts are used and Toffee, Caramel and Vanilla as flavours are quite prevelent natural whisky flavours in the now main stay bourbon casks.

Got a Master of Malt Peat taster pack. So tonight I'm having Big Peat, Laphroaig Quarter cask, Brora 30, Octomore and Compass Box Peat Monster... All are very good, I must say. Octomore is the surprise for me. One of the best whiskies I've had this year.

Jameson
Abhainn Dearg Spirit of Lewis
Springbank 12 Claret Finish 54.4%

I have an aversion to wine finishes but this one works well, the Springer is great.

Sainsbury Irish Single Malt ( the one in a plain green glass bottle ). Distilled at Cooley, and another fine Irish malt for Sainsbury. In fact this is great. I love it.

It's similar to the Dun Leire, but more spirity/watery, and simpler.

Sounds like I need to take a trip up north and visit Sainburys ....

Laphroaig Quarter Cask on the go at the moment ... great stuff for the price.

The Dun Leire 8yo was very nice. I found a bottle in Cambridge recently while I was visiting my daughter. Yummy.

£20 in Sainsbury's at the moment if you can find a store that has it on the shelf. Brilliant price and brilliant whisky. Definitely worth going for.
It's better to have drunk it all, than never to have drunk at all.

Having been thrown into the deep end of smoky whiskies by Michael S and Luke earlier this year, I've been easing my way back into the water by way of Speyside, home of the smoky drams that don't club you around the head with creosote, TCP and smouldering wood.
I'm currently enjoying a 14 yo Connoisseurs Choice Daluaine, quite floral and heathery on the nose, with a nice touch of fire and malt on the palate and smoky vanilla to finish.
Very pleasant indeed.

Laphroaig 18 is a very pleasant (if pricey) introduction to Islay Malts JC. A smoothie by Islay standards and still Top Quality. Ref Adrian if you need further confirmation! :ugeek:

That said, for the budget unpeated my Mother is a fan of Aldi's "Specially Selected Aged Irish Malt Whiskey", which is 8-Year-Old Tyrconnell in all but name for €24.99!!! (Cooley, 40% ABV) Top Quality!

u r right David,

i started with Old Burkes,

than Dundalgan (still not fancy)

Aldi's special select single malt (last years Bottling)

Bushmills 12 Caribbean rum finish

than Tullamore range side by side; 10 years old reserve, 10 single malt, Heritage, Black 43, and the winner was the Heritage

and finished it all with Connemara 18 single cask (CWS), to make sure i have a good sleep, and sweet dreans \,,/

Currently finishing a Brooklyn Pilsner from the Deveneys Beer Box I got from my sisters for Christmas. Great idea - 12 different unusual beers. Deciding whether to follow on with a Knappogue 12 or 1998. Both fairly similar I suppose so it probably doesn't really matter.
