Locke's 8yo Single Malt (2007)

Postby IrishWhiskeyChaser » Tue Apr 21, 2009 2:50 pm

As it is/was malt of the month thought I'd give my thoughts on this. I think a few people may have tried this lately so it should be interesting on how different we all taste this one ;)

Locke's 8yo Single Malt 40%

Nose: Light & smooth sweet malt, Pear Drops, Orange squash

Taste: Boiled Sweets, pear drops again, Apricot. And a quick spice burst.

Finish: Dusty and dry spice, White pepper, slight anestetic Smoke(light)

Comment: Not bad and quite a pleasant whiskey but very lightly peated compared to the Connemara. A good value Irish Malt for €35.00

I've always found Locke's 8YO to be a perfect chaser whiskey. The maltiness compliments the stout.

Any thoughts?

I've never tried it with stout, but next time... Sounds like a good idea.

Not having tried the Locke's with stout, my favourites to go with a pint are Powers and lagavulin 16.

I've always liked the Locke's, but haven't had it recently. I have heard it tastes quite similar to the Michael Collins.
