Whisky shops in Berlin?

Let's talk whiskey.

Whisky shops in Berlin?

Postby jcskinner » Fri Oct 15, 2010 8:53 pm

Anyone know of any worth visiting?
I'll be over there shortly, and was keen to avail of the generous prices on offer to our continental counterparts.
Plus, if anyone's been through Dublin airport recently and spotted any must-buys...

There's a Cadenhead shop in Berlin, somewhere.

The Germans are big into their whiskey and I would be surprised if you cannot find a decent whiskey shop.

The guys from this shop released a whisky part matured in a herring barrel about three or four years ago. I meant to get one for the craic, but they wouldn't post to Ireland. It was called Fishky. Apparently it didn't taste of fish at all...

I visited two places in Berlin a couple of years ago,

The Cadenheads shop was well worth a visit, had a good selection including a good selection of Cooley Cadenheads CS but has since changed location,

Also the Big Market shop is worth seeking out

There is a third one in the suburbs which I didn't get to whose name escapes me...

Yes, I never managed to get hold of a bottle either, but it was a poke at Bruichladdich for all their released 'finishes or ACEs'.
They got hold of a cask of Bruichladdich and then finished it in a herring barrel and indeed called it fishky.

Bruichladdich were not happy bunnies, but could do nothing about it.

Here's another Whiskey shop in Germany I found. I know it in Bruehl not Berlin but trying to revive so old treads.
The web shop is still under construction but they have a few odd ones in there.
Free delivery for purchases over €80 too, I wonder does that apply for here.

The most interesting thing I found was that they don't list Tullamore Due at all. :o

Here's the ones I'd never heard of
A Drop of the Irish 11 years old - Peated - Cask No. 1434 - Limited to 278 bottles. The Bottler is Blackadder Irland.46,0 % 0,70 l 51,50 €
and this cask strength one
A Drop of the Irish 14 years old- Cask No. 253 - Limitiert auf 261 Flaschen.58,2 % 0,70 l 71,90 €

Their from Bushmills and here's a brief description from the site"At Blackadder International, we want you to celebrate that difference but we also want you to enjoy Irish whiskey as it was always traditionally enjoyed."

Here's a link to Blackadder Whiskeys site.

They're from Bushmills ...

I see the Blackadder site says Bushmills alright but the peating implies they are sourcing from Cooley too.

The original A Drop of the Irish was a no age stated (NAS) bottling, this I believe was from Bushmills.

Nothing for a good while until a 10yo Peated single cask was released in 2009.

These I presume were released last year and looks like one from Cooley and one from Bushmills.
