Anything good in Dublin Duty Free?

Let's talk whiskey.

Anything good in Dublin Duty Free?

Postby DavidH » Mon Nov 16, 2009 2:10 am

I have a chance of a vicarious purchase at Dublin Duty Free this week (ie I'm not going but I know someone who is). Has anybody spotted anything notable and particularly good value recently? Would the new Tullamore Single Malt be there, perhaps?

What about the Jameson Signature Reserve? That's supposed to be only available in the airport, isn't it?

Not cheap though ... can't remember how much could be over 50Euro for a litre and it seems you can only get it cheap in irish air retail if travelling duty free or travelling back through some where like Germany or Holland.

It's not my favourite Jameson either. Tastes a bit watery to me, or something.

Not a bad idea. I liked it well enough when I tried a sample, though I know what you mean by "watery". It's €35 for one litre, duty free.

Worth it for that price, I think. Sure you probably wouldn't get a litre of standard Jameson for that.

Yes for €35 at Duty free it is good value but I think it shoots up to €59 if you can o nly buy it via travel retail.

I'd wouldn't be too keen for €59. That's what I thought it was in the airport.

Bushmills used to do single casks for duty free too, but I'm not sure if they still do.

€53 travel retail, to be precise. More than I would spend still. Here is the Dublin Duty Free shop online. They don't show all their bottles here (why?).

There seems to be a Jameson Signature Reserve and a Jameson Signature Reserve 1780 there. Are they different?

I have a Jameson Signature Reserve and it has the 1780 on the neck and on the Label. Can see how it may be called Jameson Signature Reserve 1780.

But if there is a newer version without the 1780 on it .... ????

Surely those aren't Duty Free prices Zoltan?? Those are mostly dearer than the high-street retail prices
