A new one in the range, released for the moment just in the Czech Republic, I think.

There seems to be a lot of activity around the Tullamore brand at the moment. I wonder why they chose to market the new release in such a restricted fashion though, seems odd. The PPS element appeals to me as does the slightly higher strength, though why they focused on 43% I cannot fathom :?: It would have been good to have an age statement also.

That's one that sneaked under the radar, TD have a very broad range atm, surely it will help consolidate them in european markets

Sounds nice alright and at 43% that will give it a bit extra

Official tasting notes state

Nose: Mellow spicy, fruity, slightly herbal. Malty, sherry notes, vanilla, toasted wood, faint citrus.

Taste: Medium bodied, fruity mellow, good complexity. Spicy oily pot still flavours, sherry wood influence apparent, nutty, malty. Nice sweetness, some Christmas cake notes.

Finish: Mellow, spicy, sweetish.

Comment: More intensely flavoured than standard Tullamore Dew, with distinctive sherry notes and pleasantly spicy oily pot still whiskey flavours nicely balanced.

Not sure about the Tullamore on sale near you but regular Tullamore is only sold at 40% here but the Black will be 43%. It also sounds like it will be a slighly heavier whiskey with more Potstill content. However will have to wait till I get my hands on a bottle before I can actually say.

Tullamore Dew launches Black 43 Irish whiskey- with pot still character and higher strength -
C&C International has launched a new premium Irish whiskey blend - Tullamore Dew Black 43 - that will be released in limited batches to the brand’s key markets.
The new product makes its world debut in the Czech Republic where distributor Stock has already achieved brand leadership for Tullamore Dew in the overall whiskey category. It will them be launched in other leading markets.
Crafted by Ireland’s eminent Master Blender Barry Walsh, Tullamore Dew Black 43 is a triple distilled blend, enriched by spicy full-flavoured pot still whiskey aged in old Oloroso sherry casks. The ‘43’ in the name indicates its higher-than-usual alcohol strength.
Black 43’s distinctive pot still character is blended to appeal to Tullamore Dew drinkers interested in extending their drinking repertoire without moving to the more exclusive aged variants.
“The new Black 43 is packaged in the standard Tullamore Dew bottle as an everyday drink, but the deep matt black labelling and silver foil give it a strongly masculine and sophisticated personality – in line with our target audience expectations” says C&C International’s Marketing Manager, Benoit Batard.
“The extra strength and more complex flavour really add to the drinking experience and make a great addition to the award-winning Tullamore Dew range.”
Black 43 will increase Tullamore Dew’s range of consumer choice which already comprises Tullamore Dew, 10 Year Old Reserve, 12 Year Old Special Reserve and 10 Year Old Single Malt.

You'll find that the dark version is only a stylised picture of the actual bottle and I'd imagine it only comes in a clear bottle. Both the background downloads feature a clear bottle as do all the colour adverts. It is only the black and white pictures that the bottle is made look black which is a bit misleading if it is not the case. However it would be much more imposing if the bottle was actually black or had black tint. So if there are no black bottles I think they may have missed a trick. Maybe they don't want it to dominate their line up as I know I'd gravitate to the black bottle just out of curiosity.

lucky enough, i got a bottle of this great whiskey today

the first thing i noticed was the Bulgarian description on the back under the English,
so that means second market is Bulgaria after Czech Republic  i do not know, but looks like

they have an antifill membrane in it, so they are protecting it to be watered down, like some bars just did here in Dublin with spirits

some tasting notes;

first it is reminded me for Redbreast on the nose, with the sherry and spice
i got pot still taste, spiciness and a lot of sherry, a bit of a bite to my tongue with lemony sweetness and raisins
the finish is warmed with sherry and a little citrus and going on long enough with a spicy kick

i have to say it is a fantastic whiskey, very different from the others in the range, but on a good way,
very well balanced surely have some younger whiskey in it and a lot is going on after minutes in the mouth

Was thinking of popping over to Tullamore to pick up a 43 Black. I rang ahead today and found they have not recieved any stock as of yet so trip cancelled  .

At this stage they are unsure when it will arrive.

According to staff totally exclusive to the Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre in Ireland. So interesting to see if Ally gets his hands on some.
