Another new Cooley blend. Only €15 at the moment, though it will be €17 normally, apparently.

You ain't gonna like this bit: the label describes it as a combination of pure pot still and grain whiskeys. As a society we really have to start a campaign to get the PPS term protected.

Ultimately, I'd like to see the term Pure Pot Still Whiskey restricted to products made on the island of Ireland to traditional mashbills only.
I suspect a DOC from the EU would suffice. But that requires either the government or producer (in this case IDL) to make an application.
And it's possible Cooley would object, since they use the term (incorrectly) so often.

I think i even overheard someone(cooley??) brought this to the European courts

Cheers that's interesting ... can you clarify though?

In what sence can it not be used ... i.e. by makers of a whiskey made from both malted and unmalted barley. Or by makers of single malt whiskey in a pot still.

Or is it both but can't see why the term Pure Pot Still can't be used at all?

Well got it ( only three bottles on the shelf ) - Green label with gold writing .

Would agree with the tasting notes in terms of the nose but didn't find the maltiness and was a little sharp for me in taste.

For 15 euro - well worth it but wouldn't pay too much more for it.

Went into Superquinn ( Knocklyon ) to grab another bottle of it and none in stock and the staff didn't know if they were getting more in .. any stock in other Superquinns ?

Ahh Interesting ... so that's who it may have been orginally designed for... I found this Carlingford in a well known Galway delicatessan (sic) & spirit and Wine merchants may moons ago and always wondered about it. Still have a couple in the back

i got one too for €17

have to say the Aldi's 8 years old for €22 is way better

this is very young, a little citrus as it sais on the back lable, a bitter woody taste and that is all you get for €17

Of course saying it has the flavour of Pure Pot Still is not the same thing as actually having PPS. I'm pretty sure there's no battered dublin bay prawn in Scampi Fries.

Actually if you get a scampi fry (is that the singular?) and leave it in a glass of powers for an hour or so you do get the distinctive flavour of pure pot still and fine grain,
