A very interesting turn of events ... probably just need to simplify their product as the vintages were getting older and older and they'd have to change price accordingly which may not help the brand.

Can't say I like the idea though.

I'll miss their vintages, makes them stand out from their competitors... however it goes back to the issue of labelling, as an enthusiast I like to know what is in a bottle, it helps with your purchasing decision, gives you an idea what to expect when trying a whiskey for the first time & aids discussion of the product.

Hopefully Knappogue Castle will consider a vintage with an age statement.

How about the "Knappogue 1998 Vintage 12 Year Old Single Malt Bourbon Barrel Irish Whiskey" all captured on the label with tasting notes on the reverse!

They are also bringing out a 1998, I think, in Ireland. Not 100% sure of the year, considering the last one here was a 1995.

So can we expect one final vintage statement before they introduce an age statement...???

I think so. Maybe they'll still do a few vintages. Not sure. A 12 yr old Bushmills would be nice, as the Distillery one is probably my favourite Bushmills (apart from maybe the 1975s)

I favour the age statement, with years of distillation and bottling given in small print for TheWhiskeyBro ;-) I find it hard to keep in my head what they have already produced since they keep changing the age.

It's also confusing when set against the Midleton idea of vintage, namely that it's the year of bottling rather than distillation.

I notice the rear label appears to suggest the the original Knappogues were single malts. Which is, or course, not the case.

GOod to hear that they say they will probably continue to release special releases with a vintage statement. Unfortunately I reckon these will be quite limited and therefore probably only available in the US :(

Hm, they are still selling the 1995 vintage (bottled in 2008) at my local whiskey shop. I'll keep my eye out for the new 12yr bottles.
