Strangest whiskey-related product

Let's talk whiskey.

Strangest whiskey-related product

Postby jcskinner » Fri Apr 24, 2009 4:26 pm

Branded glasses, jugs, coasters and other bar paraphernalia are nothing new.
But there are certainly some rather odd whiskey related products out there.
I'm sure lots of you will already know about the whisky condoms:

But what about scotch flavoured toothpaste, anyone? For that fresh whisky-scented breath first thing in the morning! (But don't overdo it - it's six proof, stronger than most beer!)

Any other bizarre whiskey products out there we should know about? What's the strangest marketing product an Irish distiller has released?

Toothpaste World? That's why I love the internet!

Life magazine did a feature on whiskey-flavoured toothpaste in 1955. The whiskey in the Scotch one was Black & White, but it looks like they had Rye and Bourbon flavours too.

I wonder why we don't have it today? What's so good about mint?

Why were they adding Gilbey's London Dry Gin to it, though? The range appears to be 'Scotch', 'Bourbon' and 'Rye'.

I suspect that gang started with the question "How can we drink at work and write it off as an expense?"

I reckon the gin toothpaste was an in-house experimental limited edition!
Which is strange, because while I can imagine that some gin botanicals might give you a fresh breath sensation, the heavy vanilla, oak and sherry flavour impact of whiskey wouldn't.

Yes I think it's not bad either ... to be quite honest I can't taste any JD in it but that's not a bad thing ;)

I think its hard to beat a good Tennessee / Bourbon whiskey based bbq sauce. In fact I don't find it strange at all - it think the strong heavy sweetness is perfect. What I recommend is to make up your own bbq sauce to whatever recipe you want and add a good healthy dose of bourbon!

You just mock away IWC, but I'll be having the last laugh when I'm tucking into the perfect chip in August. I've been working on this dinner since January when I dug over the frozen ground. You can taste 8 months of care and attention in every bite!

I'd just use a flask myself, but I guess the hippies can't think ahead.

Also another good, but not strange product: Jim Beam hot sauce. Very good.

Quite good for Duty Free, I'd say, so it's not as heavy or bulky carrying around the booze. At home, it's the perfect excuse to resurrect decanters, to class it up again. I look forward to all the good whiskeys appearing in this packaging

My thoughts too.

They'll surly arrived in tetra packs soon too. I remember getting Saki like that years ago.

In East Cork traditionally there used to be no shortage of old whiskey
barrels for obvious reasons and as a result they were used for various purposes.
Apart from half and quarter barrels as garden planters ( which were seen in many garden
centres) & water butts for cattle they were even used by one man as a type of irish style picket
fencing -- took apart the barrels and used the individual staves reversing every 2nd. one. Made
for a long lasting fence !!! A wood turner in Midleton also makes very narrow, attractive wooden
pens from old Jameson barrels. :!:
