Irish Whiskey in the movies/tv

Let's talk whiskey.

Irish Whiskey in the movies/tv

Postby shanel23 » Mon Mar 01, 2010 9:56 am

Was watching Layercake last night on tv and there are a few few scenes where the characters were drinking whiskey - in one scene between Colm Meaney and Daniel Craig they are drinking Lockes's 8yr old and there is a also a bottle of Tyrconnell on the table. In a later scene Craig is on his own drinking a scotch of some sort ( couldn't make it out )

Also when I watched the wire Jameson was the whiskey of choice by a mile .

I've seen blackbush many times in the movies too.

Any other notable placements of Irish Whiskey ?

I've heard Jameson features in Mad Men too. I've never watched that series so I can't attest to it myself.

Locke's 8 was in Layer Cake last night, I think Tyrconnell was too.

Top marks for spotting the whiskey; not so much for spotting the post at the top of the thread. :D

Janey mack. My apologies, Shane. I was sure I read everything but didn't notice that at all...

Anyway, in The Doors, Val Kilmer is swigging Bushmills, I think.

Jameson features in "GI Jane" and is ordered twice by Jack Nicholson in "As Good As It Gets". Bushmills is swigged throughout "Independence Day". There's a new gangster movie coming out in the U.S later this year called "The Irishman" with Val Kilmer and Christopher Walken. While "The Irishman" whiskey may not be in it, its great to have a movie named after it!!

Fair play TheAngel'sShare I've seen all those films and I think I only barely noticed bushmills once in Independence Day ... well spotted.

Just googled the Irishman ... true story too ...

Synopsis from http://www.imdb.com/

Warning! This synopsis contains spoilers ;)

The Irishman chronicles the rise and fall of infamous Cleveland gangster Danny Greene (Ray Stevenson), who engaged in a power struggle with the Italian mob. Greene was as an upstart longshoreman union rep and later became a cocky, legendarily difficult-to-kill troublemaker in the world of organized crime in the 1970s. Based on the real story of mobster Danny Greene, Christoper Walken will play the loan shark and nightclub owner Shondor Birns and Val Kilmer is a Cleveland police detective who befriends Greene. The incredible ensemble cast includes Vinnie Jones, Marcus Thomas, Vincent Donofrio, Linda Cardellini, Laura Ramsey, Paul Sorvino, Mike Starr, Tony LoBianco, Vinnie Vella, Steve Schirippa, Jason Butler Harner, Robert Davi and Fionnula Flanagan.

Hi IWC,

Ha, I know Mike Starr (and his Brother Bo Starr). Both have done tons of film/TV. Both excellent Actors.
I've also met Robert Davi. I'll have to keep an eye open for "The Irishman" (the movie).

I saw Power's feature in the 'Butcher Boy' just recently. RMovie has a really dark ending. Francie the main character grabs the Power's from the sideboard in the B&B in Bundoran and proceeds to down the bottle down below on the beach.

Matches the whiskey so

I have never gotten the regular Jameson :? Grand as a tipple down the pub but not something I find I can enjoy at home. Now the 12yo and up are totally different stories. Actually had a nip of the RVR last night. Ignoring the price of this it is an amazing whiskey. Rich and full of wonderful flavours. Must do notes on this at somestage.

It could be used as another form of exposure, to get people to link over to this website.

Bar scene towards the end of "The Boys And Girl From County Clare" (aka "The Ceilidh Wars") shows assorted bottles on the shelf behind the bar. Couldn't identify any of them, but this is supposed to be taking place in Co Clare, so it's safe to bet a few well-known brands would be there.
