Paddy whisky to Paddy whiskey

Does anyone have any idea when this change happened? I have old bottled with both spellings.

I've had some of the old bottlings and thought they were nice - not unlike the Jamesons and Powers of the same era. There was also a 10-year-old one.

Maybe the name changed when they merged with the Dublin distilleries?

Thanks David. I had seen that thread alright, but I suppose I was hoping someone might have something specific. Also, I wonder if it's possible hat it was spelled differently in different markets? I only ask as I think both bottles may be from a similar era - Late 70's Early 80's.

Writers Tears, as a PPS/Malt Blend, is what I think was intended with Paddy - and it's great!

But we all know the story with good intentions!

Was this bottle of Paddy (sold this AM) really from the '40s -
Should we (IWS) aim to have a reference set of labels (JPGs) over time? I assume that some of us already have a good set of reference images.

It's a blend, which tells a story. It looks older than the 1960s. Maybe 50s or 60s.

Exactly John the Blend part is quite telling and judging on the style would be inclined to agree with you but I would not be surprised that it was only 60's - 70's.

Then again the Watercourse distillery which was part of CDC was long producing Grain whiskey prior to even the 40's but I've never seen it labelled like that before with Blend so prominent.

I suppose the question is when did the term blend come into use?

Interesting bottles and it went for a reasonable price in the end.

It's probably pre IDL/IDG though as they spell it whisky
