Kaixo Guys,
I recently found out that South Africa produces Sherry, now why dont some savvy Irish distiller start maturing our amber nectar in Saffer Sherry Oak and have it ready for the Soccer world cup..what a marketing coup..think world cup limited edition South African oak matured Irish Single Malt.
Send my fee to my usual swiss bank account,,,what a whiskey guru,i amaze meself.....slainte!!

Nice idea! It's probably a bit late to even do a Sherry finish for the World Cup at this point, though South Africa is a big market for our distillers so I'm sure it would go down well.

Is their oak actually grown in South Africa?

Some sherry finished would only be in the butt for six months, I believe. I think, but am not sure, that most of the extraction of the sherry flavours happens early on in the maturation.

You could probably get them at a good price too, as the Rand is not a very strong currency, I don't think.

Nederburg do a brandy, I believe, made from the same grapes as their wines.
I wouldn't put a whiskey beyond them.

If a distillery did do this they'd surely do a pretty "handy" trade in France
