I'd be interested in buying one. I think the last time I saw one in auction it was £120 to £150, but that was a good while ago.

I did a quick tot on open bottles, I think there's about 80. There are also duplicates of some but I left them out. I think it's time to stop buying!

Ok, where on earth do you store them!??? :D

Do you 'divide' them up Iain in terms of what you don't mind drinking routinely and what you might be 'in fear' of opening at the end of a good session?

No no the list includes the open bottles! With duplicates etc. I'd say there's about 350 - 380.

I suppose you could say the open bottles aren't part of a collection but to be honest most of what's there is intended to be opended some day. I buy things to try for the most part but then but other things and forget. Some of the opened bottles have maybe one or two measures taken and haven't been touched in a couple of years. I'm not really sure what to do with them in some cases. For example there's an open early Arran malt I'm not mad on - maybe 1/4 to 1/3rd of the bottle gone - do you want it?

Another example would be the Cambletown Loch 21 I opened years ago - a pleasant enough whisky but when there's so much else to chose from I never seem to get to it. Likewise the Glenmorangie original.

I started trying to clear the open ones but as, I think, IWC said, I found I was drinking probably a little too much so I could clear the bottles and get to open something new. I reckon with only one or two measures gone th quality should be ok.

Maybe we should have a forum for swapping open bottles we don't want! Or a society meeting where we all just bring along what we've got open and let people try whatever they fancy!

Ok, where on earth do you store them!??? :D

Do you 'divide' them up Iain in terms of what you don't mind drinking routinely and what you might be 'in fear' of opening at the end of a good session?

In a room full of nothing but whiskey, cd's and guitars! And a couple of chairs.

Don't particularly divide them up - I've a few that I intend to keep but sometimes they do get opened - I see no point in buying whiskey for someone else to enjoy in the future!

are you intend to drink it all?

No no the list includes the open bottles! With duplicates etc. I'd say there's about 350 - 380.

I suppose you could say the open bottles aren't part of a collection but to be honest most of what's there is intended to be opended some day. I buy things to try for the most part but then but other things and forget. Some of the opened bottles have maybe one or two measures taken and haven't been touched in a couple of years. I'm not really sure what to do with them in some cases. For example there's an open early Arran malt I'm not mad on - maybe 1/4 to 1/3rd of the bottle gone - do you want it?

Another example would be the Campbeltown Loch 21 I opened years ago - a pleasant enough whisky but when there's so much else to chose from I never seem to get to it.

Or a society meeting where we all just bring along what we've got open and let people try whatever they fancy!

one thing for sure, never say no for a free bottle :)

i have a bottle of Arran sherry cask at home too, it is horrible :(
but as i always say; your s..t could be someone else's happiness
Happiness is having a rare steak,a bottle of whiskey, and a dog to eat the rare steak!!!
