Cleaning out my mother-in-law's​ house I came across an old bottle of Jameson Liqueur. The seal is broken & the cork is damaged. Never seen this bottle & would welcome any information.

That's from the 50/60's I believe. Was mainly for export markets like the US and UK.

Unfortunately with it opened it will not hold much value. I would say have a taste yourself (don't worry it won't poison you) and if it is half decent you might be able to sell it to someone who would like to taste it. You wont get huge money though. PotStill of old had a strange near mould type taste so don't let that put you off but if it is sour and tongue sappingly dry or seems diluted it may be well turned (or oxidised and therefore not really upto scratch). Oxidation is where the whiskey evaporates where mainly the alcohol evaporates.

Has to be pre 1953 as it has the Royal warrant on the bottle
'By appointment to H.M. The King' . Most likely George vi who
died in 1953 when the current queen succeeded (his daughter).
At a guess I would think Jameson used the Royal Warrant on their
bottles until we officially became The Republic of Ireland in 1949.
Only the Archive in Midleton could confirm when Jameson ceased
to use the Warrant??

Fascinating to think this whisky is older than me (1950). With the cork broken I plan to try a dram or two with friends.

If it dates back that far, the barley was grown in a prenuclear age. I don't know if that makes a difference but I'd like to think so.
