This year's Classic Malts releases are now out.
I don't know if any have made Ireland yet.
Here's the PR release:
" Special Releases for 2009
Special, unique, individual. These words are often bandied about when it comes to single malts. That’s why we’re careful to reserve our praise for the outstanding bottlings that really deserve it.
Each year we release a selection of limited edition, natural cask strength malts we call ‘Special Releases’. Perfect for whisky enthusiasts, collectors and very generous gifters, our Special Releases are exquisitely packaged, often individually numbered and extremely scarce.
Opportunities to buy such sought-after bottlings do not come along every day...
Each of our Special Releases is bottled at natural cask strength. This means absolutely nothing is added or taken away. It’s the closest you can get to drawing a dram from the chosen cask yourself, without actually being in the distillery warehouse at the perfect moment of maturation."
And here are the drams:
BENRINNES 23 YEAR OLD
BRORA 30 YEAR OLD
CAOL ILA UNPEATED 10 YEAR OLD
LAGAVULIN 12 YEAR OLD
MANNOCHMORE 18 YEAR OLD
PITTYVAICH 20 YEAR OLD
PORT ELLEN 30 YEAR OLD
TALISKER 25 YEAR OLD
TALISKER 30 YEAR OLD
None of them particularly cheap, it must be said. I'm not aware of any Irish retailers, so I can't suggest what they might sell for here.
Certainly the Port Ellen and the Taliskers look to be the pick of the bunch to me. And an unpeated Caol Isla is intriguing.
Anyone else got any thoughts?
