October tasting (Grand Crew & Tyrconnell finishes)

Postby PureDrop » Fri Jul 10, 2009 8:15 pm

Folks,
From Zoltan: i have also asked him for the grand crew tasting if he can give us 3 tyrconnell finishes, and he said no problem,

Wlell done. I'm happy to supply/bring in some Madeira, Sherry & Port for people to sniff at this tasting
I wonder can we find out which sherry (Olorosso, Manzanilla, Fino, PedroXiminez, DrySack, etx.), which Port House or which Madeira is used - I've a reasonable range of all three in the house.

I think its a good thing to be able to sniff the sources of the finishes. Anyone agree/disagree?

For this one too, we should probably do a PPT slideshow. Hopefully, there'll be something to see/show.

/Michael

I see Amazon have a 5th October publication date for the 2010 whiskey bible.
It would be nice to have a copy with Jim Murray's tasting notes on the 4 whiskeys (good or bad).

I find that the fastest way to get this is usually through www.whiskybible.com. It seems to be always delayed on the Amazon website. Also, the Celtic Whiskey Shop tend to have it before it arrives at Amazon.

This is a chance to taste the first two casks selected by the society.
See thread hereand the Grand Crew website here.

With the three Tyrconnell finishes, we'll be able too to examine the impact of various finishing casks on the malt.
To help the process, we'll distribute some "nosing" samples of each of: Oloroso Sherry, Malmsey Madeira and LBV Port.

See you there.
NOTE: Any changes to the event (whiskies or timings) wil be indicated on this post - check back occasionally!

October 1st Grand Crew Tasting

Postby stephen leddy » Mon Sep 21, 2009 8:39 pm

Do we have everything organised for this event? My time has freed up and I can give a good dig out coming up to the event and on the night. I'll find out about my radisson connection tomorow and revert with an answer as to the possibility of moving the venue to the radisson city centre FOC.

Hello Stephen.
Details of the tasting are at http://forum.irishwhiskeysociety.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=264
It looks like all is in order at the moment.
It has been advertised to the IWAI list, requesting any intending attendees to let me know in advance if they''re hoping to attend.

Note that Bowes is NOT available - the committee are urgently seeking an alternative venue.
We'll forward a note to the mailing list and also here once we secure a venue.

The new venue is Brooks Hotel on Drury Street.

Doors open at 7:30pm, as usual, but we'll get underway a little late (8:15pm) to allow for those who are redirected from Bowes.
