Need laser code help

Postby birdman1099 » Mon Sep 12, 2016 2:47 am

I recently received a bottle of Jameson 12 from auction. It is by far the best 12 year old I've ever had. I'd love to find some more of this year/ batch.

What can you tell me about the bottling year? And who can get me more? ;)

Hi there Birdman,

L4 is 2004, 218 is the julian calendar date, i.e. c. 3 August (leap year), good luck with your hunt,

Hi there birdman,

Slight correction the L4 relates to 2014, this format was introduced as late as 2006.
That means you might find 2014 batches on the shelves of your local store.

Are you sure about that code Birdman?

As The Whiskey Bro said L4 is 2004 or 2014, the next 3 numbers are the date ***/365 or 366 in this case of 2004. The next digit should be 3. That was bottled in House Of Donohue in Waterford. 1- Fox & Geese, 2- Belfast & 3- HOD. The next are the batch numbers.

I think the Coses were before 2006. The 2005 Redbreast 15 have them etched in the glass and I've a 2004 Jameson 12 also etched in the glass.
Nowadays it's found on the rear label.

The following is a general preogression of the Jameson 12yo.

The last 2 are probably one of yours as the rest are definitely pre bottle code. They are both similar but the most recent one had Special reserve across the middle on the wine banner in gold writing so from 2014. I guessing if it does not have that it is the previous version which would probably date it from 2004.

here are pics of the code. definitely an 8, not a 3.

the code is etched, though, not printed.

Amazingly my bottle was filled the same day but a little later on.

The code is L4 218 ? 145. The ? is slightly damaged and isn't clearly visible. I expected it to be 3 but I've a 2005 bottle which is L5 326 5 288. I'm guessing the 1,2,3 were added after.
I've an 2011 and it's L1 234 3 1278 (time)
It has 22/08/11 under it.

As you can see the earlier codes have 8 digits while the later has 9.

It's a 2004 bottle. My 2004 and 2005 came with plinths.

The Redbreasts of the same era were also House Of Donohue and the 5th (of 8 too)digit of the code is also 3.

I wonder was the Jameson 12 different
