recently I purchased a few bottles of

Cadenhead Cooley 16yo

a Longrow Gaja finish

and a Cadenheads Campletown Loch 50% malt

most recent was a bottle of Penderyn, a present from someone in work who was over in wales visiting her parents, nice firey drop of whiskey.

before that, maybe it's the CJD or maybe i've been drinking too much but I have no Idea what the last bottle i paid for was!

since I buy most of my Whiskey in the celtic whiskey shop maybe you guys have a better idea!

I know i picked up a bottle of redbreast but that was for my Da (for those following the saga from the other posts I couldnt get the Loch Lomond here and was too late to order it online and have it turn up in time for his birthday but thanks for the help....).

I think it may have been the bottle of Jameson Signature Reserve that i Picked up when visiting friends in england, that is still sitting at home unopened, which may be a nice bottle for our next meeting....?

Been duty-free buying Scotches (sorry!)
I picked up a nice double of Glenfiddich for 60 euro in Charles de Gaulle (12 yo reserve and 15 yo Solera finish) and on my way back I grabbed a Lagavulin 17 yo and an Aberlour A Bunadh.
In my defence, I do have pretty much every Irish whiskey I want in the house already, and I did get given a Redbreast and a Green Spot to add to the Connemara Cask Strength I won at the Whiskey Tasting competition, so I didn't feel too bereft at turning my back on what were pretty poor selections of Irish whiskey in Paris, Mumbai and Schiphol airports.

I'll keep a sample for you if you like, Adrian.
I intend it as a winter dram, as I'm not normally a smoke freak.
But I did open and sample last night out of irresistible curiosity, and I have to say it came across with some amazing wine notes. I was getting raspberry crumble and cherry liqueur as well as the more expected tarry brine, wood ash and salt.
A genuinely big, bruising yet fascinating dram.

Bought a few bottles of Laphroaig 15, as they're not making them any more. For some reason, I bought a 10 litre whiskey barrels with Locke's on the tag. Now I am flat broke so won't be buying any more for a while.

Just back from a quick raid across the north

Jameson 12yo £23.52 (Circa 27Euro)
Bruichladdich Rocks £23.98 (Circa 27Euro)

But the serious bargains were ...

Powers 1L £18.94 (Circa 22Euro)
Lagavulin £37.49 (Circa 43Euro)

Npot putting these into the bargain section as these are pretty normal prices for the north. I think the Powers was on special alright though.

Sorry - I only noticed this now. I got three bottles from http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0132795952 . It says 40% abv, but it's actually 43%. And it's in a tube, not that that matters.

The 15 is really good. Much better than I remembered.

Zoltan has done a great job with the barrel.

Just picked up a bottle of Jameson 'Distillers Selection' 12yo (Bow Street) c. 2005 from Germany.

As they put it succinctly themselves on the back label "A special selection of finest Jameson Irish Whiskey."

Hey John, You seem to building up your cask collection, are you trying to start a cooperage?

By the way you were talking about an aged HP that you bought lately that was a cracker but it was soon to go to 40%. Can you remind which HP you were on about, how much it was and where you got it? Sorry for all the questions

It's the Highland Park 21 made for the duty free market. Not sure it can be had anywhere anymore, but it is the one still listed on the Highland Park website. I have a link to someone selling it on eBay that I'll send you when I find it!

Popped out to Lanzagrotty for a quick week of sun after a wonderful Irish summer.

The best part is that it is considered outside of the EU eventhough controlled by spain, so I could avail of propper duty free

on the way out.

I got 1l of Laphroaig 10yo 30Euro boring I nkow but had to have something tasty to sup while out there.

On the way back I got a HP 12yo for €25 and Bowmore Enigma 12yo for €30 ... will keep me sipping for a while

Bowmore "Tempest" - 10 Year Old Cask Strength (55.3%) Non-Chill Filtered.

Opened this last night. Lovely stuff, but takes time (and water) to get the best out of it.

Spirity stuff, a little on the "light" side, but the flavour grows as the palate adapts to the higher strength:

Signature Bowmore smoke in the finish, but well-balanced, not aggressive at all, at all.

Most de-fin-itely a Bowmore and good value too. (€50.00 you-know-where - take note Diageo!)

Passing through JFK last week I bought a bottle of Highland Park 25 Year Old for USD$175.00 (€119.00)

I wasn't tempted at all by the Glenmorangie Signet sitting next to it on the shelf USD$189.00 (€128.00) !

I'm sorry Gentlemen, but LVMH really do have their $h!te! I promise, I won't start my usual Ardbeg ranting here

All I need as an excuse to open the HP25 is a venue and crowd free of ice and TK red lemonade...
