I think if I was going to spend that sort of money on a Midleton it would be a 1973 26 year old. I'm sure there was more than 1000 bottles of the MVR 2009.

Good point but if you are a collector then the 2009 is a choke point that
would make it very hard to link up anything pre 2009 withe the 2010. At the
time it was launched off licences were given out a max. of two I believe and
it would be probably safe to conclude that being near Christmas a lot of them
were drank. It was not advertised at the time that there were two vintages in
the same year. Safe to say that even the fledgling IWS missed that one at the
time ( tongue in cheek comment I might add ) :!:

I remember drinking my one at the time. It was the last one I bought. I've tried a few vintages since but I prefer the Jameson 18 or Gold and both are cheaper.

Nice price alright.

It's a not bargain but close as when you consider the real deal costs 10 grand as this actually comes as part of the box set it and is possibly the cheapest way to get a shot of this, unless you were lucky enough to get it for the original price of €6,000 which was not around for very long.

Read about it at Liquid Irish

They could of at least added a couple of glasses for the price too ;-)

I'm down to my last bottle now. I did enjoy them but I won't be tempted to restock at those prices.

Price may not be as mad as you think as these may be the bottlings that had a touch of peat which are very rare. Would love to get a bottle myself.

I was in Cork for a tasting & there was one used. There was a touch of peat in it. I know the later ones, spelt whiskey were standard enough, no pot still but still nice whiskey. I wish IDL had kept it and not Dumphys.

No peat used in that version. The peated one was in the round bottle
and was only available in the late sixties when it was specifically launched
to do battle with Scotch. That version also used some grain from the old
Watercourse Distillery. The peated one was quite pronounced as I think I
still have one or two opened and unopened around the place.

Thanks for that Raven. I could have sworn there was a hint of peat in it.
I've a couple more of them that I have earmarked for a tasting somewhere
along the line. You'll have to attend.

There were some good Irish whiskeys in http://www.whisky-onlineauctions.com last night.

Jameson 12 US Import late 60's?Image
Hammer price £170(200.6)

Jameson Dublin Liqueur 60'sImage
Hammer price £280(330.40)

Connemara Cask strength Image
Hammer price £97.5(115.05)

SMWS Cooley 1988 25 year old Image
Hammer Price £280(330.40)

SMWS Bushmills 1975-1988 Image
Hammer price £350(413) :o

Dunvilles 3 Crowns 1948 Image
2 sold , £575 & £490 (678.50 & 578.20)

Jameson Gold 90's £37.50(44.25)

Powers 70's Black & Gold label £32.50(38.35)

Bushmills 12 Iltr £55(64.9)

Tullamore 70's crock £52.50(61.95)

Knappogue castle 1951 36 year old £550(649)

Tyrconnell Port £32.50(38.35)

Midleton 1984 £525(619.50) :o

All prices in () include the 15% Commission & 20%VAT on Comm'

There was some bargains in this one but they weren't Irish. I seen they had 6xArdbeg 10's that sold for £155(182.90) so with postage etc that works out about €45 per bottle in Ireland, normal price is €69. That's good value I think.

I bought the Jameson Cooperage. By the time you pay 15% commission, VAT and postage, it cost me about £95. You really have to buy a few whiskeys to make this auction work.

That's about €120. I guess it's not bad. I don't see to many of them nowadays. Do you have the Distillery Horse too?

Scottish Whisky Auctions had a few Irish Whiskeys.

I'm only mentioning 6 but there were a few others. Prices weren't remarkable so I didn't record them. I'm not saying these are remarkable prices either. I really wish they would make their site easier to use. It's going for 5 years now and still as difficult to use. If you use #Irish Whiskey as a search you'll find lots of lowland whiskeys but may not include some actual Irish Whiskeys.

Bushmills 21 Year old - 60(67.50)

Bushmills 400 Anniversary - 50(56.00)

Knappogue Castle 1995 - 75(84.00)

Midleton Dair Ghealach Tree 9 - 145(162.40)

Redbreast Cask Strength B1/12 - 60(67.50)

All prices are Sterling And Commission is 10% + VAT

Just read that a bottle of 100 yr. old Irish whiskey
sold for a whopping 15,000 euros @ Whytes in Dublin
last week. Looked it up in their catalogue. it was a Dublin
Whiskey Distillery bottle. Picture online (lot 296). In the
Picture it did not even look sealed -- no foil capsule etc.
Amazing price but it was a '1916' auction !!

Yes truely amazing all right and I believe a record for any Irish Whiskey.

I also believe this price is more down to 1916 memorabilia rather than Irish Whiskey collecting. Brilliant no matter which way you look at it though.
An original copy of the Proclaimation went for an eye watering €185,000.00.
Even some medals were going for thousands rather than hundreds.

The Whiskey was from DWD and distilled in 1916 and reckoned to be bottled in 1966 so a 50year old. I wonder how good it is (if it is intact!)

However I'd have serious reservations on the cork never mind it missing the seal. Just does not look right but who knows it does look like it has been in the bottle for a few years at the same time????? Even if the cork was replaced on the original contents it is probably now suffering serious oxidisation. Anyway I am sure it is going somewhere it will be appreciated for what it is.

looks like this thread was sleeping for a while, but the auctions are busy as hell, selling good Irish whiskey
more and more rare, and some really good stuff popping up on different online auctions

great time to pick up a few every now and then
