Thanks for that.

I was thinking of Cavanagh which is from West Cork Distillers. It sold in Russia instead of their Kennedy brand. I guess Kennedy wouldn't be a great seller in Russia. I wonder how Cavanagh went.

I don't think that's Teelings. Can you post a link or a picture.

Looks like it is Will, never heard of it myself until now but possibly a US whiskey only ....

Thought that couldn't be right until i saw Teeling on the bottle
as C/Kavanagh I saw as being West Cork Distillers brand. I saw
things going legal over less as this name is spelled by Irish people
in both ways. I concede the labels are very different. I recall though
West Cork were selling this brand in the U.S. as well as I saw their label
on a U.S. drink website def. not a Russian site.

Just realized that the link I gave above ascribing the Kavanagh trademark to Teeling , needed to be reset for page to show. I attach a screen grab of the relevant page.
Also attached details of the K Kern Irish Whiskey trademark...The trademark being assigned to International Distillers and Vintners Ltd.
BTW there is also a Kavanagh Irish Cream ,produced by Terra in Co.Cavan. Perhaps not surprising as they bottle for Teelings

Re WCD ,I can not find a TM application for the Cavanagh brand whiskey/spirit drink (?) the only trademarks in the US for this name are a clothing company. Anyway the Teeling trademark application goes back to May 2013.

I found a little on the Cavanagh I spoke about.

http://www.argonautliquor.com/mobile/it ... p;priceid=

Here's their description
"Cavanagh’s is a subtle fusion of the finest Celtic whiskies and malt to insure a unique, challenging and august drinking experience. Cavanagh’s, handcrafted in West Cork, Ireland, is infused with Irish and Bourbon cask oak using a proprietary infusion process.

It is then steeped in malt through an ancient artisan and near-forgotten technique. The resurrection of this lost steeping process insures to marry a smooth and clean finish whilst retaining a vibrant and distinctive character.

Cavanagh’s is inspired by the Irish love of good company and lasting friendship."

Is that's whiskey? I don't think so.

I knew I had seen it on U.S. websites alright but could not recall which one. I'm sure it was
a different website I saw it as I was never on Argonautliquor.com. This website has it in
the category of Irish whiskey which from the contents may not be right. 'Celtic whiskies'
covers a multitude -- Irish, Scottish, Welsh & Breton all of which produce !!

I think the review of Cavanagh's from Proof 66 says a lot http://www.proof66.com/whiskey/cavanagh ... drink.html
Also the review of the sister brand McFaddens and the reply from WCD is very informative http://www.howtodrinkwhisky.com/west-co ... sh-spirit/
Just to round off ,a review of the Kennedy range..... http://www.drinkhacker.com/2014/10/23/r ... te-lineup/

I know we're off topic here but I would love to read howtodrinkwhisky.com 's review of Pogue whiskey.

This is an excellent description of McFadden Irish stuff.
"This stuff is creepy. I took my first sip and woke up shoeless on a park bench 20 minutes later with a raging case of pinkeye and no recollection of how I got there. If you’re looking for a passive-aggressive Secret Santa gift for that whisky-drinking loudmouth you work with, this is it."

I think WCD have had an image issue and did not get out there to explain themselves very well. The reply was interesting and if they did that from day one they probably would not got half the flack as they receive on whiskey forums and blogs. At the end of the day clarity and opens works the best in this business especially when you have a highly knowledgeable fan base for the product.

Anyway back to topic, my last 2 purchases were Powers for €21euro & Paddy for €20. Ridiculous prices but I'm not complaining

We won't see these prices again as the under selling or below cost discounting of Alcohol is soon to be banned here. Stock up guys.

Hard to believe but the Powers works out at €3.62 retail after taxes and Paddy €2.88

I'd love to know how much the Chains are losing on these ... and if the Distilleries are taking a hit too?

I'm told Aldi & Lidl are launching those vouchers again, the spend €50+ get €10 off. If the likes of Tescos start accepting them again, I'll be having a field day. I recon I'm a net loss as a customer to them. I only ever buy spirits and fuel.

I got a Jameson caskmates in Supervalu Enniscorthy for €38. That's not bad value I think. It's not easy to find down these parts.

I tried this at the Irish Quality Food Awards and was not overly enamoured. At €24 or so you'll get vastly superior whiskey.

Got the Michael Collins gift set with the old, tall bottle, a flask and a leather clip-on golf set. It's been a while since I've seen this in stores. About $25.

I took delivery of a Midleton Single Grain from the Irish Whiskey Society. The joys of membership.

What will next year bring us?

I got one myself. Looking forward to trying it too. I've an Aviation that's going to be broken open very soon.

I'd say that they'll be lots of these coming in the next few years.

Picked up the following for our next tasting in Ennis....

Paddy Centenary for €65, Powers 3 Swallows for €42.50 and Jameson Caskmates for €41.50 - all in Dunnes. I also picked up a Teeling Single Malt for €47.99 in Shannon Knights (OpenDoor) off-license in Shannon. I noticed they have the Caskmates for only €38 - you win some you loose some!

Spotted a nice little whiskey in the off-license that I had before that I also bought - Nikka From the Barrel, €39.99.

That should keep you warm for a few weeks. Judging by the storm warnings, you'll need it.

There's an topic called "Bargain Buys (whiskey, whiskey books , etc)" that's always worth checking. We found Three Swallow for €36 last week in Tescos. Great thing is they also accept the Lidl & Aldi vouchers so this is often a real steal. They had vouchers last week with spend €100 get €20 off. I'm bankrupting them at this time of year. The papers cost €3.

Supervalu has 3 Swallow for €40 & Jameson Caskmates for €38 until the end of the year I'm told. Well it's only a few days away now.

I'm off to Tesco for some plunder.

That Nikka from the Barrel is great value. That better than most wholesalers.

Stopped at the store last night to get a Dingle Gin for the wife and picked up a bottle of the cask strength Redbreast 12.

Noticed Yellow Spot on the shelf for the first time here in the states but didn't get one since I still have a fair amount left of the bottle I acquired while on vacation. The selection available here has really improved in the last few years.
