I was looking at an auction in Cavan on Tuesday and there was two very interesting lots.

A Dunvilles matchstriker
Dunvilles Striker.jpg

This made €50

And this John Power Box containing probably 40 empty Baby Powers

This made €280.

I was suprised with both prices. I would have expected half that.

Anyone looking for a Dunvilles striker, cheap ;)

There's an empty bottle of Dunvilles on adverts.ie for €800. It claims to be 1908-1914 but would need more examination to be sure. The mad thing is that someone has offered €75 for it. I wonder what I could dig out that I could cash in on.

Saw this on eBay. An old coin op Jameson dispenser. Very interesting IMO.

I wanted to bid but it wasn't near my price range unfortunately.

Hope the link works, I'm using my phone to post.

Well you're in luck IWC, it's been relisted. But more expensive this time! Not sure if the prior sale fell through or perhaps they have a few of them.

Well Like yourself not at that price ...

Very cheeky on the relisted price and a bit suspicious if you ask me.

There's some lovely Irish Whiskey labels on eBay at the moment. I'll post photos and results as soon as I can figure out how to use an iMac. Here'sone.

This beautiful DWD mirror got an amazing 240euro+commission at Purcells in Birr last month. Image

I have one myself although its not in as good condition as this but I'm happy all the same. There about 7" x 12"

Here's another that sold on adverts last year for 75euro  , I was the lucky buyer. bd) bd)
Image
It's a good size too about 20" x 28"

Picked this up recently. It's metal and about 45x60cm. No real great idea on age but it has plenty of rust. It does say by royal appointment- not the more typical "by appointment to...". The seal doesn't have as much detail as the old labels. I'm thinking the slot in front was a place for coupons, flyers, or a calendar. One more interesting tidbit - It was shipped from India - not sure how it made its way there.

If anyone has any insight feel free to share. Thanks!

The Empire is quite simply the answer ! The old maps in Midleton
that showed areas of distribution quite literally (pre 1922) showed
the whole Empire as being the market. Very interesting item.

Found this bottle. It's an advertising piece... about 60cm tall. In pretty good shape considering it's gotta be about 80 years old I would think. I have a similar John Jameson one, too.

I've seen a few pieces like this come up lately. Anyone know what era they're from or where they were made? Can't see any distinctive markings from the pics (just grabbed the pics of these two from eBay).

Personally I would not be happy with either particularly the 2 nd. One. Never came across Irish Whiskey from
A bonder etc. Coming in a similar type vessel. The top one is a jug of a type used up till the 1980's to bottle 'potcheen'
Which was done by Woodford Bourne here in Cork. I've a feeling that they could be the product of the Irish pub phenomenon
of the 1990's onward. In the end there was'nt enough bric a brac to go around to ship out to the various places where pubs we're opening and as a result they had to improvise and make up new stuff. Definitely have seen other stuff that arose in this way. As some pubs close up or get themed into the next new big craze then the old accessories end up on e-bay etc.

If you cannot physically handle/examine the item then the dictum of 'caveat emptor' definitely applies .

I'm inclined to agree with you too Raven. It looks like a mix of Jameson & Corrys. It looks a Woodford & Bourne Poitin and there's a similar Poitin bottle to the second one as well.

We could be completely wrong of course too.

Thanks gents, always appreciate the insight! I was interested in the first one but it sold for like €1,000 which was way beyond any thoughts I had. The second one was even like €200. Crazy stuff!

Meant to mention as well how careful the wording is
as was shown to me before ---- it does not say Jameson
Irish whiskey but Jameson's Irish whiskey on both !!
Legally very different I believe. Crazy crazy money as
personally I would not touch either with a barge pole.
