Yes, old whiskey jugs can get big money regularly. However it is a totally different type of collector involved in these bids usually. Obviously some whiskey collectors will bid for whiskey jugs but there is a huge community out there that only collect jugs and others brewery/distillery memorabilia. It is a very big market but you really need to know you earthenware from your pottery and a lot of the time it is down to the rarity and maker (Potter).

Very interesting area but a vast knowledge base is required.

This one got some interest as well. I'm still sort of new at this... is the €200+ seen here and throughout this thread the going rate for an old jug??? Or are these prices a little crazy?

I've been following these for a while now but have been surprised at some of the prices. The first item in the thread, The George Roe Jug went for a crazy price. I seen the whiskey for around the same price.

Some of the others were very high I believe. Those Pins and badges were good value. I've ones like them and they took me years to find. I cant see that many exist because they were very small.

Its certainly an interesting area for collectors. I'm sure lots or people here have some great examples. I have some nice stuff I collected over the years. I've nothing as exotic as the ones here apart from the badges.

This Monastereven distillery Turf token sold for £31. It predates the Lockes, that puts it pre1840's.



This nice double sided enamel sign got £160. Too much for me but I hope to find one at a more affordable price.


This Jameson Red Seal whiskey jug got £23. I've one I got a few years ago and this is the only other one I've seen. Lots of Jameson and Crested 10 but never Red Seal.


This only got £49, cheap compared to some others. The condition wasn't the best. I noticed only one bidder so it may have slipped under the radar of other collectors.

I watched Purcells Auction with disbelief last week. The results were staggering. A few years ago you could have got whiskey memorabilia for a fraction of what they went for here.

These prices were exceptional and I can't see it continuing. I know there are groups out there buying up lots of pub stuff but they are driving the prices mad. A bubble is building.

Those prices are just lunatic. Admittedly some of that
stuff @ Purcell's was rare enough but some of it wasn't and
still made big money --- Irish Whiskey museum somewhere
or an Irish whiskey themed pub opening soon -- just a thought
as it seems to be some couple of people who wanted them bad.

I have a bottle of the first one. The pub it's bottled for is now the Porterhouse. Says "malt" on the bottle. An interesting one. I must dig it out.

The first was an advert in a wall hung picture frame, I think.

This one sold on ebay.de for €6.05, a bargain.
I like the way they spelt whiskey without the 'e'.

Another got £22.77. It was a regular Powers pin.

There were some interesting lots in this months Purcells auctions

There was various crocks but they didn't make as much as March auction.

They ranged from €75 to €110. Last time they were double that.

this sign got €130.

THis rare DWD mirror got €280

There was a couple of Old Jameson square mirror pre 1930's that got €130 and €170.

Ashtrays seem to be gaining value, although there was very few Irish whiskey ones this time. I got a lovely Powers one with 2 Guinness ones for €50, a bit over budget but I got bid out of lots of things I wanted.

Got this a while back. It's my understanding that it's an advertising display bottle that would have been put in a pub, likely behind the bar. It's glass and over half a meter tall. Too bad it's empty!

They were looking for €300 for the 5 jugs but reluctantly accepted €150.

The Paddy and Power's were Arklow. At €150 I'd say it was a good price. I've noticed the Arklow jugs are getting harder to find lately.

Hey folks, haven't been on here in a while.

I have a few items I'm looking to sell, hopefully face to face, I'm based in Dublin. Sticking it up here as I think it falls into the Memorabilia category.

I have 4 water jugs; 1 Guinness, 1 Carrolls Cigarettes and 2 Tullamore Dew which have little cork/porcelain stoppers on top.

The official Scotch Whiskey Nosing Aroma kit, only used once or twice and still in perfect condition with all original packaging.

And 14 books about whiskey, ranging form the History of Locke's Distillery to Whiskey & Philosophy.

This Jameson jug was on eBay. It didn't sell likely because it was listed at ~€400. I ended up making a deal with the seller for a much better price. I've been trying to do some research on it with some limited success. "Pearson & Co. Whittington Moor Potteries near Chesterfield" has beginnings as early as 1810 I believe. It may have only taken the name Pearson & Co. in the 20s. It survived until 1994. This is what I found but I was hoping someone else might know more since the date range is so large. I was able to find old examples of the company's stamp but not the one on this item.

I haven't found anything on Wrigley Bros. Anyone know of them?

Finally, was curious that it says Bow St. "Distilleries" and not "Distillery". Don't know if that's significant.

If anyone can add any info I would greatly appreciate it!

I was on Adverts earlier and seen a empty bottle of Jameson Distillery Reserve. It was one of those bottle you could put your name on or someone else for a present.
This one had Mark Zuckerbergs name on it with the
"Description:


This was a present for Mark Zuckerberg made in the Jameson Distillery, Dublin.

It was for a tech conference last year but he never arrived. What else was there to do, can't let good whiskey go to waste. It has since been drank by other CEO's

The gas thing is it is worthless as anyone can goto the Distillery and get a bottle done with any celebrities name and try and hock it. Fool the person who buys it ... Unless you have proof the person owned it these are worthless.

Provenance is key here. Word of mouth isn't worth the................ & fool and their .............. The one thing that will always baffle me is how did the fools get the money in the first place.
