I think I had a bottle of that too at one stage ... let me guess you got it on WhiskyAuction ? ;-)

Good guess. One of those bottles that seem to offer good enough value to take a pint at. I've got a few good one over the years.

Last night was a pour of Redbreast 12 as I was reading the IDL chapter of Kate Hopkins' "99 Drams of Whiskey". Followed that up with one of the last pours from my Signatory UCF 18 yo Clynelish. Added a 1/2 oz or so of each of these bottles to my growing frankenbottle of whisky.

Happy Saint Patrick's day to all. I'm working in the morning so I'm having a little Jameson Marconi for a night cap.

Last night a "widget can" of Kilkenny and two large pours of Redbreast 12. This bottle has now been open two years (I drink slow...not an indicator of a bottle lacking in quality) and it seems like the bottle is getting better with every pour!! I'll be transferring the last 1/4 bottle to a smaller (200 mL) bottle to save it a little longer.

Even though it's only a 40% abv bottle, adding a little water brought out a batch of citrus zest in the nose/palate that was not present without the water...simply amazing stuff.

Ok, I live in Albuquerque New Mexico in the heart of the desert southwest USA. Many years ago i was introduced to GreenSpot Irish by a young Irish programmer who worked for me and brought me back a bottle. Since then I have had to be happy grabbing a bottle here and there when I am in Europe. All of a sudden I fount it on the shelf in my favorite liquor store and at a price 40% less than I paid in France last year. I am shocked and trying to determine if there will now be a steady supply in the US or should I stock up. I thought that Mitchell only bottled and distributed in limited quantities for the Irish market??????

Hi and welcome. No need to stock up as there should be a steady supply reaching you. Mitchell's have the distribution rights in Ireland. Pernod Ricard/Irish Distillers are supplying outside.

You may be lucky and find a Yellow Spot. Powers John's lane 12 year old is another worth trying if you can get your hands on it.

I'm trying some Penderyn Mederia tonight. I missed the tasting so I remember last year Dominic had Penderyn at his tasting.

I am weak ... I was just about to hit below 50 open bottles and I'm on the way up again.

In the last while I've opened up a new Redbreast 15yo, Jameson 18yo and my 2 newest purchases Laga 16yo and Johnnie Walkers Spice Road.

The Lagavulin is a nice return to an old friend for me after not enjoying my previous bottle which was a good while back, but possibly me and not the Laga back then.

I also could not resist trying the JW Spice Road from their Explorers Club collection which is basicallly a Travel retail special edition (I think)

The JW turned out to be a nice surprise. It is not hugely spicey but there is a light woody spiceness to it. However it really has a full rich complex taste priofile and very drinkable too.

Well worth picking up and I fear I will fly through this bottle

I don't know anything about that particular bottle, but that profile (PX sherry, peated) would be right up my alley!! Go for it (and let us know of course, what you think)!!

If things don't work out Luke, I'm sure there would be a couple of us that would take it off your hands. ;)

Just opened a bottle of Connemara Turf Mór. Described as a single malt Irish whiskey (!) it weighs in at a hefty 58.2%.
Price €68
Well............what is it like?
Personally, I am totally smitten. I like whiskies that have that have a full peat flavour - this has it in abundance.
Not for the faint hearted. Mouth is on fire. A most unique tipple.

Turf Mór is certainly one of the finest peated whiskeys available, British whiskeys included. Always a go-to on a winters night for me anyway!

It's Monday night so I'm taking things easy. I'm off for a couple of days. I've a Bruichladdich rocks opened. It's an excellent Whisky. I'm sipping some Powers 15 from the 70's too. An interesting contrast.

I'm trying 2 different Bushmills originals. One current and the other is a 70's bottle( 1784 on the label).

It's amazing the difference. The older one has lots more character IMHO. I'm surprised, I really thought the newer one would be better

The standard bottle was changed too many times over the years. They don't keep older bottles to try out by the looks of things.

I've an old bottle of Powers to test soon.

Last weekend I travelled to the Washington DC/Baltimore area to visit a good friend. As always, he was very generous with offering pours from his large cabinet (it also worked out well as he is trying to close out a bunch of open bottles and samples... )

Amongst a varied group of whiskies and other spirits, I had a couple of pours of Bushmills 21. Damn, that stuff is amazing (it would be interesting to see if they bumped it up a bit from 40%, though)! I had gone down with the intention of purchasing Ardbeg Uigedail, and this stuff almost changed my plans. Ultimately, I got the Oogie and a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond bourbon for about the same price as the Bushmills. Whenever I can get back to the DC area, the Bushmills 21 will definitely be coming back with me (along with the PJL 12, noted below).

My friend did pick up bottles of Powers John Lane 12 and John L. Sullivan The Ten Count in a shop in Baltimore as he realized that he was shy in the Irish portion of his collection. He had been looking for the Ten Count for quite a while, and I think that I maaaay have influenced his decision to add the PJL 12 (he had not intended to buy anything at all) when I stated the unanimous response to my post on this forum about what I should bring back from Ireland (another place I still very much hope to travel to someday). A wonderful whisky weekend all around! bd)

I'm just emptying a bottle of Penderyn 41, great whisky. I look forward to Mr Swann's involvement with the Dublin Whiskey Company.

I'm just in from work and relaxing into a nice drop of Linkwood 15 year old. This is from Gordon and Macphail.
This was recommended by one of the lads in the Celtic whiskey shop and was a good choice.

I've had a very interesting conversation with John O'Connell from West Cork distillery earlier and went to my local Off licence to got some of their product. I couldn't find any and bought some real whiskey instead. Drinking Redbreast tonight.

I hope they don't take offence by my opinion,I don't mean it that way.

Those guys need to come out of the shadows and let people know what they are doing. Still no idea what they do down there and until they let us know what they are actually doing no one will trust them.

Did you get any info from them?

I actually Would have no issue with interesting new progressive products but do have issues with something try to be whiskey when it is not.

Can any body decipher this? What is this near forgotten technique???

Kennedy’s (Cavanagh can probably be inserted here too) is a delicate fusion of the finest Celtic whiskies and malt to insure a unique, challenging and august drinking experience. Kennedy’s is handcrafted in West Cork, Ireland and is infused with Irish and Bourbon cask oak using a proprietary infusion process. It is then steeped in malt through an artisan and near-forgotten technique. The resurrection of this lost steeping process insures to marry a smooth and clean finish whilst retaining a vibrant and distinctive character. Kennedy’s is inspired by Ireland’s proud and approachable ethos to guarantee satisfaction.

Drombeg is another curious one ... Is it a liqueur or An under strength distillate speed matured with oak chips/staves.

Absolute no clarity. Their whole product line s very confusing with out any of the clarity we seek ...

Drombeg is manufactured from Irish spring water and locally sourced ingredients.

It is a natural, hand-crafted premium Irish spirit liqueur at 22% ABV and is one of only two non-sweetened savoury brown spirit liqueurs on the global market. Its unique and great taste comes from the infusion of Irish oak with a sweet fresh distillate and pure Irish spring water.

Flavour: Spirituous, mellow woody flavours, sweetish, caramel & toffee, some citrus.
