There was an unusual lot in Purcells rural auction in Birr.

A bottle of Midleton reserve from the 70's. It fetched €280 + commission. Here's a link.

I think I got one like it for €25 about a year ago. Am I missing something? Can I sell mine for that?

The latest craze on e-bay seems to be when you have drunk your bottle
of Midleton VR sell the empty bottle and the box separate ! Better still
stick a crazy price on it and if you are lucky it will be sold to one of
those who are born every 60 seconds.

I love the ones on adverts.ie:

http://www.adverts.ie/other-antiques-co ... on/4295176

Love the comments.

Mind you, they are not nearly as crazy as the guy trying to sell normal whiskies over their retail price e.g. jameson gold €99 plus 6.95 for delivery:

http://www.adverts.ie/other-celebration ... ml/2124808

€85 in CWS and €90 (with free delivery from drinkstore). Cheaper too in supermarkets

I think that's an online shop. It's been there a while with some others. I know adverts don't allow you to sell alcohol otherwise, although some do sneak by.

That's a crazy price for the Jameson. I know I drank my ones. Probably should have kept one.

You know the saying 'fools and their money.....' , well how did they ever get the money in the first place?

This one has had a few more funny comments added in the last couple of days. Seller has a sense of humour anyway.

This is from Gifts Direct, these may have an affiliation with the Irish Indo but I'm not sure.

Anyway they do hampers etc and basically it is mainly Irish stuff for the export markets and yes they are always a good bit dearer than retail. 10 years ago this worked but no longer ...

There were a few surprises at this months whiskyauction.

Jameson 15 PPS €312

Powers 15 year old €399

Vat Six €258

Midleton 1986 €352

Connemara Cask no. K92/35 4326 €93

Connemara Cask Strength €62 That was very reasonable.

Bushmills 1989 b.2005 Cask no.8158 €172

Bushmills Malt 12 years old Caribbean Rum Cask €162,

There were a few bargains too.

Redbreast 15, a La Maison du Whisky 2005 one as well, €72  I got another.

Jameson Gold old bottling €65

Kilbeggan 15 €72

Scotch Whisky Auction had a Jameson 12, brown label from 70's, in their last auction. It got £145. A good price from this auction. They have an app too.
My only complaint is they don't break the whisk(e)y into different categories. Using the app can be painful when there are 1500 + lots.

I have only go a couple of things since they started. They have little Irish or American as you can imagine. The charges and postage are steep if your in Ireland. That Jameson would cost roughly £185/€220+.

It's still good to see more places out there.

Last Saturday whiskyauction.com didn't have much Irish in it.

One strange one was Cooley Thosop BVBA 1999 Single Irish Malt Whiskey 1/179 53,3% alc/vol
It made €113.

An old Jameson Gold made €64,
2 old Powers probably 70/80 made €30 each.

There were a few bargains but sadly I missed them all.

Image

These went for £95+C too.
Image

An 1985 midleton went for £240+C

Bushmills Millennium Malt 1975 went for £100.

Not a bad price but still good value. Hopefully they do some more and start getting a following for Irish whiskey.

Yesterday's whiskeyauction.com had a few interest bottles.

An old Paddy probably 60's got €80.

Kilbeggan 15 got €100

A Connemara cask strength got €42, very cheap indeed.

There was a Screwcap Green Spot which made €102. They arrear to be appreciating at a high rate.

There was a good variety of Irish in the latest whiskyauction.co.uk. I counted 23 out of the 122 item up for auction.

Wm. Cadenhead Cooley 10, 11 & 12 went of £83, 42 & 52,

Greenore 15 no box for £60,

Kilbeggan 15 no box for £55,

Jameson 15 for £255  ,

Jameson 18 for £46,

Jameson Distillery reserve old bottling £50,

Jameson Marconi £70

Lockes Limited 5000 bottle £101,

Lockes Limited 1000 bottle £92,

Tyrconnel limited 5000 bottle £110

Bushmills 1982 17 year old for the Millennium £202,

Bushmills 1985 Distiller's reserve for LMdW for £149.

Another interesting one was a Henry Downes for £27. I notice all the previous ones in auctions appear to have the broken capsules but that's probably the way they are sold.

There was a few others too. Hopefully a few more will appear in the next few auctions.

I see there is a very old bottle of Jameson's Whiskey from 1866 up for auction at Whiskey On-Line Auctions (Lot No.356).
It would not be something I would personally be interested in purchasing, nevertheless it is an interesting item of antiquity.
Current bid stands at £1050

That bottle got £3500, a great result for an Irish whiskey. 32 bids today alone, most in the last 20 minutes.

May the seller spent the money well and may the buyer enjoy their purchase.
