London - What should I buy?

All,
A long shot but if you were going London hitting duty free shop but with duty in dublin and heathrow and staying in London so Cadenhead near me too!

Where would you visit in London for whiskey?

And what would you buy maybe two nice xmass bottles up to a hundred euro each or so?

Ps no exp in any whiskey outside Irish to date and american!

But not mad keen on Connemmara just yet so maybe noot peated but unsure i think i need try another peat too as was in early days!!

Go on shout out what ye would buy!!

The Whisky Exchange is a good spot. I remember going to a place called Milroys years ago. You can get addresses on the net.

Lots of good pubs too.

Redbreast maybe yes but tyrconnell Madeira i get in miniatures regular in local off licence

I take it from your reaction to Connemara your don't want a smoky one either.

Luke told me to try Glendronach a while back and I was very impressed. I tried the basic but will try another one soon. Hopefully he'll see this and give a recommendation or two.

As for duty-free/travel retail, I'd keep an eye open for reasonably-priced Laphroaig, particularly Quarter-Cask or PX.

If travelling through Dublin I'd pick up a Tullamore Phoenix, a cask strength whiskey but very very nice.

There are thousands of choices from the Whisky Exchange and if you go in there don't be shy and ask for help they will be very glad to assist you to buy 2 bottles.

Middle of the road scotch whiskys which are not peated try something like

http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-1814.aspx (This is a really under rated whiskey as I reckon it is ignored by hardened single malt fans but this is a beautiful easy drinking whiskey and as far as I remember has a really light touch of peat which you would barely notice.)

For an entry into peat try Bowmore.

But seriously have a chat with so guys in the retail out let and I'm sure they will give you a few samples to try.

Well to date bought a Tully Phoenix for consuming in dublin airport and a gathering and a paddy commemorative for the collection!

Then on to London and in the hotel i had the following drams,
Macallan Gold - Lovely easy drinking enjoyable drink
Highland Park 12 - To me a little sweet
Glenfiddich 12 - Another very enjoyable single malt - impressed

Then said ill revisit the peaty

Bowmore 12 - and yes thanks IWC I actually really enjoyed this after returning from the cold after a cigarette

And to wrap up the night

Lagavullin 16 - Star of the night without question - warming, exitic, old grotty pub / tobacco and peat - truly beautiful and so different to me at least!

Anyway its not every day a man can say had five whiskies that are widely available which had not tried one to date - fantastic night and have decided i will be heading to Cadenhead but for the sake of familys Christmas presents and personal finances I have decided I had better avoid The Whiskey Exchange at all costs

Great to see you enjoyed the whiskeys. I like the Islay malts too. I was doing a little tidying and just found a bottle of Bowmore 16 year old. Happy days.

Strathisla - Glenlivet Distillery - Aged 23 years in bourbon hogshead - single cask - 48.5% - one of 222 bottles - iv had a tasting and addictive is an understatement!



Islay cask strength blend 58% from instore cask - oldest whisky - 36years old - heavy peated - 1 * 35cl
Highland cask strength blend 60% from instore cask - oldest whisky 50years old - one of the best tasting whiskies i have ever had - 1 * 70cl and 1 * 35cl

Heathrow Airport
Midleton very rare 2013
Glenlivet Master Distillers Reserve - 1L - 40% - Single Malt - blend of three casks being traditional oak, american oak and sherry
Laphroaig - PX Cask - needs no explanation

Unfortunately some of the above will form xmas presents, others for drinking and others to be locked away for a period of time!
