Whiskey Memorabilia

Postby Good Whiskey Hunting » Tue Aug 13, 2013 11:07 am

I've collected various whiskey memorabilia over the years and thought it would be worth something in time.

I follow various auctions on ebay to see what the fetch. I recently seen a water jug from George Roe and thought it would go well.

I estimated it at over £200 as i'd see rare Jameson ashtrays getting that. I got an auction reminder before the end of the auction and it was at £223.77. I checked to see what the final bid was yesterday and it fetched £847.00

Here's a link http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... NA:IE:3160

The Whisky Exchange had a full bottle recently for £899 I think. If I had the cash to spare I'd have bought the bottle.

I'll be looking at more auctions now I think.

Saw that as well €1,000 for a very rare George Roe jug, presumably it must have been two longtime collectors desperate for the same jug.

This was a Bushmills Jug that went for £217.

It claims to be from the 30's/40's and has "The spirit of the age Famous over 300 years". I thought they only started to claim they were older than 1784 in the 70/80's!

Is this jug a bit of a lemon?

Here's a Dunville's Jug that has a week to run.
I'm amazed at the prices I'm seeing.

Hey GWC, thanks for starting this thread! I collect some whiskey memorabilia as well, should be fun to share thoughts. Some crazy prices for a few things out there on eBay these days for sure, but not huge interest on the Dunville's you posted yet it seems. I had a question on this old double sided porcelain Jameson sign. I picked it up a while back but never was able to learn much about it. It's about half a meter long and about half that tall. It has some age to it for sure based on the rust and roaching. If anyone knows what era this is from, I'd be happy to learn. Thanks!

I've a couple or small mirrors with similar writing style that I'm guessing are 20's-40's. I could be totally wrong.
I would think the "not a drop sold until its 7years old" started in the 40's but again I'm not sure.

This little badge is my favorite piece.
I use a similar picture for my avatar photo. I found it on ebay as far as I can remember.

Nice one GWH, do you know what the caption under the trade name means?

I think it was 24 under 100 proof meaning 76proof which was 7/4 ABV, that would be 44.5%. I remember IWB explaining it to me, but I'm not certain.

Your description is correct but it comes out at 43.4% ABV when I do it. I had a go at this stuff on the blog way back.

I stand corrected David, My mental calculations are a little dodgy lately especially when I'm after having a nightcap.

Picked up this mirror a while back. The oval part is the mirror with the rest being green matting. It appears to be hand painted. I was told it was the owner's grandfather's, which would make it mid 1900s or older, but can't say for sure. Any one have any insight (or guesses)?

Thanks!

That stunning. A real gem.
I guess early to mid 1900s judging by the style of writing.

I hope someone here has a better idea. Well done.

How's this for memorabilia, should I open it and enjoy the contents or save it unopened like I've been doing for the last 8 years because it was a gift from a loved one who passed many years ago.

This one got some interest as well. I'm still sort of new at this... is the €200+ seen here and throughout this thread the going rate for an old jug??? Or are these prices a little crazy?

I was watching that one. The price was high but all you need is 2 eager bidders. There was a lot of interest in it. I notice all the were on the last day.

I love to have one like it but wouldn't go that high.
