I've seen this advertised as such before, although I'm not sure if the distillers make the claim.
It's mashbill, if my French is okay, is 80% unmalted, 20% malted. However, it ain't barley that they're malting but 'ble noir', or buckwheat.
In other words, this is a PPS wheat whiskey, if there is such a thing.

I'd love to try that. That could be a tasting theme - pot still grains. We could have a barley v this wheat v Old Potrero (rye). Any oat whiskeys out there?

Bernheim's is an American wheat whiskey made by Heaven Hill in bourbon country.
There's corn whiskey too, though it doesn't tend to be too subtle.
I'm not aware of an oat whiskey anywhere.

Is there a corn whiskey made in a pot still?

I had a quick look at the Bernheim site and it's only 51% wheat grain (plus corn and barley).

That's the legal requirement for a wheat whiskey in the US.
I'd guess that the Platte Valley straight corn whiskey might be the best bet for a potstill corn whiskey. It depends on whether Heaven Hill use pot stills for their Mellow Corn or not.
There are all sorts popping up in microdistilleries in America at the moment. There could well be oat whiskeys or other wheat whiskeys out there.
Tuthilltown in New York state do a pretty authentic sounding potstill corn whiskey and what looks very intriguing - a four grain bourbon.

There is indeed an oat whisky, although I don't know how they make it. Could be other grains involved. It's made in Austria by teh Weidener (sp??) distillery. They also make spelt whisky and rye whisky. I'm sure there are other distilleries doing this too.

Eddu uses buckwheat.

The Bernheim is good and quite a bit different from bourbon. It's well worth including in a tasting. It's quite expensive though at £50.
It's better to have drunk it all, than never to have drunk at all.

I have a bottle of Armonac or anorak can quite remember the name,but its fron the Breton region.
In Short; no French whiskey,no french fries untill the "Firm" FIFA get their act together..

If you want a German pure pot still, then there's the Hohler distillery's "Irish Style" whiskey, which is made from barley, malted barley, rye and oats...
