All thanks to the Bro who got it in travel retail for me :D

The Feis Ile version is due out now soon too and it is described as a "Port Wood Edition" so hope to get my hands on one of those.

Banff (whiskies of Scotland) 1980 25 y.o. 50.8%

Tastes like more. Nice hint of peat, old highland style.

Yoichi single malt. I picked it up in a nice little shop in Rouen. The owner gave me some samples and this was my choice for tonight's tipple.

It is! I had a French night. Armagnac and calvados with a good bit of wine.

I'm trying some Calvados too. I got it on the road to Omaha beach. I even got a look at the still and got some raw spirit. Excellent experience.

Lucky you! I've never made it to that corner of France, though I feel I should as not only do I like Calvados a great deal, but family were at Juno and Sword.

Nun's Island

Nose: Vanilla and polish. Oaky.

Taste: Very soft. Vanilla, lemon, cinnamon, oak. Biscuity. Sweet.

Very nice. If they produced this today, I'd be a regular buyer.

Nothing quite as rare as Joel & John for me.
I bought a bottle or Aberlour A'bunadh & Scapa 16 earlier today and am trying the Scapa. I expected it to be smokey like a Lagavulin but nothing of the sort.

Smooth, spicey & sweet.

I can't wait for the A'bunadh.

Trying the A'bunadh it's not quiet what I expected. I expected more like the regular Aberlour. It's heavily sherried and I get a hint of sulphur but may try again at a later date.
I assume they vary greatly from one batch to another. I can't believe how cloudy it got when I cut it with water. I even used mineral water as my mains is horrible lately.

Sherry monster is right. What batch do you have? It does vary.

I'm on more RB 12.

Sulphur used to be common in some sherry monsters i.e. the likes of Glenrothes. However whether it is Sulphured is another question. There is a split in theory's over some sulphur tastes as It thought the use of Sulphur candles has ceased in the industry. IDL have stopped doing it for well over 20years ... yet I over head 2 well known industry experts or reviewers (for want of a better word) claim they tasted sulphur in a Midleton heavy pot sherry cask that was younger than that. I tasted the same whiskey and got more of a meaty taste which borders on sulphur too. It was at this IDL tasting that they were trying to show how some of their sherry casks are just too big for single cask release. I loved it but could see their reasoning as if they had blown the taste buds off two so called independent industry experts (in tasting) how would Joe public react

Anyway Willie the sulphur may subside after a while and it may not. If your struggling I'll take it off you hands ;) But too much of that characteristic can ruin the over all effect but hopefully it is just an initial flavour burst from initial opening.

I'm happy with The Aberlour. It's very subtle anyway.

I'm trying some Jon, Mark & Robbo's Irish Malt Whiskey and some Glendronach.
The Irish is best described as soft. It won't stop me drinking it, but the Glendronach is fast becoming a favourite.

Laphroaig 2013 Port wood ...

Strangle looking whisky with a Calaforian Zinfandel blush going on ...

Will need to revisit this as I'm not sure about it on first taste ...

Tastes big on the Laph iodine and the port influence is quite subtle. No age statement but I'm guessing younger than their usual releases. Further investigation but so far does not beat the QC or PX for finished Fryog.
