Revised Jameson Labelling?

Let's talk whiskey.

Revised Jameson Labelling?

Postby Luke Gough » Tue May 14, 2013 9:38 am

Just seen a UK tasting here: http://www.whiskyintelligence.com/2013/05/nickolls-perks-jamesons-whiskey-tasting-this-week-firday-may-17th-irish-whiskey-news/

It lists the following:
Jameson Green Spot
Jameson Yellow Spot 12year old 46% abv
Jameson Limited reserve 18 year old
Jameson Powers JL
Jameson Redbreast 15 year old 46% abv
Jameson Select reserve

Is "Jameson Green Spot" a typo or a statement of intent? ;)

Also, no Age Statement or %ABV following "Jameson Powers JL"? :geek:

Have IDL let something slip out? Thoughts please! :ugeek:

Personally I would'nt read too much into this item apart from NAS being
down for the Powers John's Lane which has already appeared elsewhere
as a distinct possibility. Otherwise they are only identifying the other
items as being out of the Jameson 'stable' so to speak.

There was a 'solid' rumour that Green Spot and Yellow Spot would be re-branded with a "JJ&S" seal (their historic branding) on the label to latch onto the "Jameson Marketing Dynamic" in North America. You never know...

The North America 'rumour' could be the clincher as that is where the big
growth lies and it would be necessary maybe to stand out on the shelf as
the Jameson name over there has cracked the market !

Whilst that may be the rumour, I think the purpose is to identify all the brands being from one distillery (that produces Jameson) :ugeek:

Another thing is that Pernod/IDL own the brand and distribution rights outside the country, they can do what they wish with it. Mitchell will eventually surrender rights here too. I wouldn't be surprised to see JJ&S back on the Redbreast label in future too.

No bad thing, the Gilbey's bottlings of Redbreast 12 looked the part with the JJ&S Rosette on the label.

mind you, as Leo pointed out, i dont think the above is an indication of that intent as its got "Jameson Powers JL" there too and it'd be a long stretch to imagine labeling future Powers bottles as "Jameson Powers"...
