Victoria BC Irish whiskey tasting

Let's talk whiskey.

Victoria BC Irish whiskey tasting

Postby Joel1802 » Mon Mar 11, 2013 5:26 am

On Saturday the 16th the Victoria Companions of the Quaich are having an Irish whiskey tasting and have asked me to present. It'll be an hour of carpet bombing:

Tyrconnell NAS
Bush 10
Bush 16
Jameson Select Reserve Black Barrel
Writer's Tears
Redbreast 12
PJL 12
Connemara NAS

I'm not very familiar with the Jameson or Writer's Tears, can anyone provide info, I've checked out the web site and a few others, but more info is better. Also I can't seem to find approximate ages for the two Cooley whiskies, does anyone know? I pretty much keep to my PPS these days.

I'll provide some history and other odds and ends as background noise. Should be good fun, the nice thing about eight whiskies in an hour is I can make a dog's breakfast out of it and no one will care. ;)

Writers Tears:

Black Barrel:

Note that I am not allowed to say where Writers Tears is made, but it all comes from the one distillery. That should be enough for you to figure it out ;)

I also find on my site that Connemara NAS is a vatting of 4-, 6- and 8-year old whiskeys. Noel Sweeney has told us that each adds a different dimension, the 8yo contributing the finish.

Sounds like a great list Joel...wish I was there! See if you can stretch the tasting to 1 1/2 or 2 hours to give palates a slight break in between! :)

Feed back I got indicates PJL, Redbreast, and Writer's Tears were the top three.
