Let's talk whiskey.

The oldest Cooley available? Serge scores it very highly. Unfortunately, it's over 250 euro a bottle.

Circa €200 in Royal Mile if that helps ease the pain ;-)

LIMERICK 'Slaney Single Malt' 1988 Adelphi 58%

Cask no. 10516 is limited to 180 bottles.

Sounds nice ...

Colour: Matured in an American oak ex-Bourbon barrel, this is a rich copper colour with orange lights and a good bead.
Nose: The orange colour continues into the taste, with an immediate nose of Seville oranges, orange zest, tangerines and tangerine oil, becoming Gran Marnier. Then, Rowantree blackcurrant Fruit Pastels, bung cloth and rancio.
Palate: Very sweet to start with toffee and fudge, mango, papaya and guava – a peppery tropical fruit salad. Bitter almonds, macadamia nuts, blackcurrant juice and spice in the medium length finish.

Blast. I paid £177 for one in the Whisky Shop Dufftown...

The Royal Mile one isn't available in the shop yet, I don't think. It's a pre-order.

Edit: Actually, that was including shipping. That's okay. Carry on.

Adelphi must have a few of these 1988 casks. They released a Slaney malt years ago from the same source. Was that also a 1988?

In honour of the River Slaney, which runs through the heart of Limerick city... Eh.

from whiskyfun.com

This is absolutely terrific - don’t drink the best Irish too young! I agree, old ones are very difficult to unearth but I think this Adelphi is a great opportunity...

The ones I know about are all from 1991 & 1992

Shannon Grain, Slaney Single Malt and Suir Peated Single Malt.

What is the connection? I can see why you would have Slaney malt, Wexford is covered with malting buildings. But the Limerick Slaney or Suir looks odd.

Other than that has anyone tried it?

I have had a dram or two and it is a very nice drop.

Love the nose and the finish is very interesting. For the age, limited quantity of bottles and quality of the whiskey I think it is a good price.

Hi Guys,

Given it was an Adelphi bottling I assumed it was a Cooley, however I'm having second thoughts!

It is a 1988, but Cooley didn't begin distilling until Easter Sunday 1989, so it could be a Bushmills?

That makes sense. Wonder why they'd give it the same name as a previous Cooley release?

Could it be the double distilled stuff?
