Clare won their first hurling since the founding of the state, and inspired Wexford to win the next year.
It was the last Football All Ireland Dublin won till last year.
Seamus Heaney won the Nobel Prize.

Ini Kamoze-Here Comes the Hotstepper. I've the album. I'm sure I could dig out 10 or 15 more but this was a classic.
Pulp and Supergrass arrived on the scene that year too. Yeah a great year for indi and Brit pop. I've Now 30 and I think 31 somewhere so I'll have a look for a few more.

I attended the friendly Ireland v England in Lansdowne Road. David Kelly scores and the English fans ... Well lets forget the rest.

Collins beats Eubank in Millstreet Co Cork to claim the WBO Middleweight title.

Divorce is passed by Referendum in Ireland i ;)

The Irish Press ceases to exist.
