The very first whiskey was (arguably) created in Ireland by Irish monks.
Irish whiskey is distilled three times, "triple-distilled," using pure-malted barley as the grain.
Examples: Jameson's, Bushmill's, Michael Collins, and Power's.
Taste:

. When making Irish whiskey, malted barley is dried in closed ovens and is never exposed to smoke, allowing the malted flavor to stand out.
Here's a fun video from Asylum about the origins of Irish Whiskey. Whiskey was apparently invented so that the Irish wouldn't invade another country. It worked. They didn't!

Didn't read to the end but the section on Irish whiskey is mostly wrong (and please, we invaded plenty of other countries before 1922 ) so I'm wondering how reliable are the other "facts". The hops one was very interesting. I must look into that.

We invaded Scotland and gave them frocks for men (kilts!), but forgot to mention that it was a joke.

I think a few free spirited Irishmen made an attempt to invade Canada in the 18th century. But I could have dreamt that one

Wow, just an epic fail for journalism. The funniest thing to me was that at the end of the introductory text, there is an addendum where a second authour actually wants to take some credit for the piece.
