SixCats! wrote:Hi all,
I hope this post finds everyone here at IWS well. It has been a long time since my last visit here at IWS. This is indeed a timely post. I intended tonight to post/ask the very same question as the OP as I have a friend who is going to visit Ireland soon and has offered to bring back (to the U.S.) a bottle(s) of Irish Whiskey for my modest collection. Of course, I too seek an Irish Whiskey not available on this side of the Pond. Since I am a fan of good ol' POWERS Gold Label, I will follow you're advice and ask my buddy to bring me back a bottle of POWER'S JOHN LANE SPS. Sounds like a winner! That being said, what other Whiskey might I consider (that is not TOO expensive) ? Perhaps : Writers Tears, Locks 8, LOCKS Grand Crew, Green Spot pure pot ? I very much appreciate your thoughts and suggestions. Since I joined IWS, I have tried : Redbreast, Jameson 12, Bushmills Black Bush, Powers Gold Label, Kilbeggan, Knappogue Castle 12, Kellan, The Irishman, Clontarf 1014 and regular old Bushmills & Jameson. I must admit, yes, while some are better than others, I have enjoyed EACH and EVERY single bottle. I guess I just have a LOVE for Irish Whiskey! Thanks again all.

Yes indeed, great minds think alike. Well Sir, I live in the State of Maine. Prices on Spirits in Maine are HIGH!

3 Reasons:
Other than the Celtic Whiskey shop the airport shop has probably the most comprehensive whiskey selection
You can take it on as hand luggage so no need to worry about packing
You can buy at duty free prices which should be a good bit cheaper

Hi IainB...thank you so much for this info...I was wondering about that option, and it looks like an excellent idea for at least two bottles. It looks like at this point that I would still need to pick up the Jameson Distillery Edition from either CWS or the distillery. Is the whiskey shop accessible from both terminals at Dublin Airport?

The main whiskey shop is in Terminal 2 (where the transatlantic flights leave from) but there is plenty of whiskey on offer in T1 too.
SixCats! wrote:Hi all,
I just wanted to say THANK YOU. Per the suggestions of the kind members of this forum (and this thread) I am soon be the proud owner of a bottle of Powers John's Lane 12 year old SPS Irish Whiskey! Yea! My buddy just returned from Ireland and phoned me today to tell me "I was in luck!" he found (with some problems at first) the aforementioned Powers Whiskey. Oooh, so, should I keep this Irish Whiskey tucked away (for awhile) and save it for a special event ? Well, I suppose I should keep hidden away (for at least a little while) as I recently bought a bottle of Powers "12 year old Special Reserve" (available here in Maine) that I've yet to open. POWERS to the people!
