Went back to this last night, even more intense spice burst in it this time, wonderful.

I still think there is something unusual about the finish ... as in something you would not expect from what preceded.

The finish seems to be very clean in comparison to the rest of the whiskey. What you get is this intense spice bust in the taste but that is washed away quickly going into the finished which initially is sweet. I don't mean the spice only last a short time what I mean is that is seems to very suddenly disappear as you head into the finish. This is medium to short however there is a strange lingering medicinal slightly numbing quality there then ... or is it just me ???? and then envelope glue/gum/paste ???? or what ever you want to call it. That seems to be there for quite a long bit after.

I was totally at sea for a while on this until I remembered JohnM mentioned the envelope glue and he is totally correct it is there for me too.

Still a really enjoyable whiskey and very rewarding.

If I get the opportunity I'm going to try this with a cigar this week as the full sweet flavours strike me as something that would go well with a cigar. Could be totally wrong but no harm giving it a go 8-)

Bought three bottles (in tubes and box for completeness :geek: ) on Sunday.

My main interest will be in seeing how a half-empty bokkel  matures over the space of a week-odd. :ugeek:

Any thoughts/comments out there?

YELLOW SPOT and Cigar (Cohiba Siglo II)

Postby IrishWhiskeyChaser » Wed May 30, 2012 10:30 am

Will you give me time Luke I'm doing my best ;) :P

Had another drop last night in the back garden over ice and with a fine cigar.

As I suspected this goes well with a cigar but unfortunately the Cohiba Siglo II I had was actually possibly too light for the whiskey which I was quite surprised at. This is a medium cigar but I suppose it is also a smooth cigar so something more robust would possibly be a better match. I was not complaining though as I enjoyed the experience at the same time, just being hyper critical.

Tried it today - must say I am impressed - Hope they follow through and re establish the whole range .

Saw that a 12yr old Green spot is 250 € - now that is a bit pricey

Glad to hear you liked it

It is the 10yo Greenspot that is €250 the 12yo is actually €850  :?

These are actually limited editions that were released for their 200 year anniversary.

The 10yo is bottled at 40% and "Limited" eh-hem to "Only" 1000 bottles.

The 12yo is bottled at cask strength 58% and Limited to 200 bottles.

I stand corrected IWC - wow 850 € is some ask ... I wonder how many they have actually sold ?

Will have to put them both on the lotto list ;)

Fairly hefty all right and the fact that they were released in 2004 and are still available 8 years later should probably tell a story ;)

Must try a cheeky offer to see if they'll let the 10yr old go for 150 ;) Must be taking up space on their shelves ..

I noticed Irish Distillers have changed their taste profile for Yellow Spot.
When it came out in was originally described as more delicate and closer to Barry Crockett Legacy, but slightly sweeter.

I personally found it a little spicier but I don't profess to be good at detecting these things.

I would have though Redbreast 15 more robust that the 12 as they describe it.

Has anyone any opinions on where they would place the various whiskeys on the profile grid?
