It has Jameson 10 on the label. It mentions Crested 10 in smaller print further down.

Yes looks an early version of Crested Ten by the looks of it, still only 70's at the earliest though I'd guestimate. Or may have been an introduction to Crested Ten in a certain market and the emphasis is on the Jameson.

Quick, sort of related, question. Seen a remark a few weeks back about buying bottles from america on ebay and having a lot of issues with customs and such. I'm looking to get a couple of bottles of 18 Year Old Sazerac Rye and I'm thinking ebay is my best bet. They cost about 100 euro each. Can anyone tell me what kind of issues I can expect or will it be as easy as pay, and wait for delivery?

The main issue you will have is with Customs. Basically it is a fairly straight forward issue in one way. Customs may intercept your package and then let it go through An Post and for you to be able to take receipt of package you have to pay the duty & Vat plus a handling charge.

This is the legal duty of anyone buying and importing goods from outside the EU.

I've noticed that the Midlands Customs office which my post goes through are very much on the ball and my last 3 or 4 bottles from the US have arrived with Duty charges, so you should expect to have to pay you duty & Vat charges when making such purchases.

I've noticed that the Midlands Customs office which my post goes through are very much on the ball and my last 3 or 4 bottles from the US have arrived with Duty charges.

Apart from the obvious ( Redbreast is one word and starts with a capital and.... )
I though you were not allowed to sell alcohol except as a collectible container which just happens to contain alcohol but should not be consumed. This is being sold with a simple over 18 only rule!

Not entirely true, you actually are allowed to alcohol on Ebay if you have a valid licence from the country in which you are selling. i.e. an Off Licence. But yes for general sales Joe Soap is not allowed to sell regular bottles unless they are "Collectable" containers ?!?!?!?. Which I have always found as a week loop hole any way.


On the Old Donegal, seen quite a few over the years so I would imagine they are fine and I think I've seen adverts for them too so in my mind fine. There really are a myriad of unattributable brands from the days of old out there but I don't put much value on them unless you can verify distillery of origin. I would imagine there are hundreds of different brands. Quite a lot from England and Scotland too.

The one on ebay is from the Irish Free state era so very easily dated to a 3 or 4 year period circa 1934 -1937.

Reason being is this is a US bottle so Prohibition has a bearing. Congress passed the "Volstead Act" on October 28, 1919,
This came into Law 17th Jan 1920 and repealed on December 5, 1933.

However the Irish Free state was 6th Dec 1922- 29th Dec 1937. So this particular bottle must of only been legally imported after repeal.

Giving us dates of December 5, 1933 till 29th Dec 1937.

Anyway, I see the bidding is over now (looks like there was some decent interest), but the seller does have some other interesting old bottles for sale to check out if anyone's interested.

Ya looks legit alright. late 50's early 60's I'd say.

Went for a fairly decent price too for an US auction as these were only getting half that a couple years ago.

Good to see the prices strengthening and a fair price for a bottle of that age.

If you were in the EU it would probably cost you circa €200 once you factor in delivery etc.

Just to give people a sense of the disparity of prices ...I can see this selling for between €300-600 in a specialist retailer.

Kruger seems dear in one scene especially for the lower value sales as up against ebay and all the different charges between ebay & paypal it works out at about at 13-15%. However if your getting higher prices at Kruger's it is possibly worth selling through Whisky Auction. If you take a regular auction house then the fees seem to be either 15% or 20% plus vat on those payments. However a lot of auction houses do not charge on the balance over 2 grand. So if you sell something for €3500 you only pay on €2000. However you need to ask as these charges can be different from auction house to auction house.

Yes a pretty mad price all right ... Maybe for the earlier Corked version but those screw caps are very common.

In saying that I'd very surprised if the likes of Tesco's and Dunnes do not have contracts in place.

It will be interesting to see who does and who does not. So hold fire on cleaning out Tesco's just a minute Willie
