All this talk of Locke's 8yo, I poured one for myself. It's a great whiskey. No cheese in the place though.

Last night I opened a new Tyrconnell 10yo Madeira finish. This has to be one of my all time favourite Cooleys. Plenty of finesse with plenty of punch too ... lovely full flavours

After that I decided to investigate the Magilligan 8yo. This is basically a Connemara. Plenty of the usual Cooley fruitiness but I did seem to find it much more medicinal than the last few Connemara's I've tried. That's not a complaint by the way ;) Need to revisit and taste it beside a regular Connemara though to see what differences I can detect.

Some liquorice, perhaps? That's what I remember from Connemara 8yo.

I'm trying a Midleton 2007 and a Barry Crockett Legacy.
There is no contest, The Legacy just ticks all my whiskey boxes.
The Midleton is excellent in it's own right but I'm just Pot Still Crazy.

18 yr old Scotch to start:

Bunnahabhainn 18
Glenmorangie 18
Famous Grouse Vatted Malt 18

The Glenmo was the older label one and I liked it so much I've opened a bottle of 1977 Glenmo. For a long time I thought of Glenmorangie as boring popular stuff but they've some really interesting and subtle expressions. I finished a 12yo Cote de Baume expression last week which was really interesting - one of the most oily whiskies I've ever tried. It's easy to forget the popular guys but in fairness to Glenmorangie they really know what they're about. The 1977 is my 3rd bottle of this expression - and I've a couple more in reserve I like this one so much.

Just the one tonight - a Knockando 21yo - 1989.

I've been trying various 21yo Malts lately - this is a fine mid level sherry one. Nice, drinkable, not overboard on the sherry but nothing to set the world alight either.

Same from me. Big Congrats. One question. After 50 years do you have to share the Springbank?

Congratulations, Ken!

That would be your golden wedding anniversary so maybe crack open something appropriately fancy like, I don't know, Millars Gold?

Congrats Ken and best wishes to your better half also. Wow a Springbank 21yo on your 50th ... very apt as both are as rare as hens teeth these days. I'll be 86 before I can reach mine ... 8-)
