Old Bottle of Jameson 15 years

Postby caudalie » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:08 am

Hello everybody,

I am a French wine lover and I found this Jameson whisky bottle in an old cellar.

I am wondering what this bottle is worth and if someone would be interested in it.
Statement is perfect.

It is labelled :
"John Jameson & Sons
Liqueur
FIFTEEN YEARS OLD
Bottled by
O. TRAINOR & CO., LTD.
9 D'Olier Street, DUBLIN"

I found on Internet a newspaper from 1953 (Trinity News) with an advertisment for this Trainer outlet (see picture below)

Certainly very collectible. Should fetch a decent price. Hard to know with Irish whiskey, but I'd say this could go for anywhere between 200 euro and 600+ euro...

Fair play for doing the research and it looks right ... as from the bottle style I would of said 50-60's all right.

Can't really see it being earlier.

These are funny bottles. Quite collectable but a value is very difficult to put on them.

As John said above I would say circa €150-200 mark also. However we do see collectors getting carried away at auction and paying much bigger money.

It really depends on interest.

The majority of Irish Whiskey in Ireland was bottled by Independent traders and Publicans right up to the mid 60's.

There is quite a lot of Independently bottled Irish Whiskey out there so I'm not sure why one bottle goes for more than another but I've seen plenty go from the 100-200 mark but then others fly away with some high prices.

Best of luck selling it as it is a nice bottle.

[A waffle shop in Dublin... how great would that be?!]

Thank you for showing us that very interesting bottle, Marie-Madeleine. I hope you find a buyer.

I'll be thinking about waffles for the rest of the day...

Best advice I can give you is enter the bottle in:
http://whiskyauction.com/

It will get 300+ euros at the very least going by current prices. With a max of 700.

Don't accept anything less than 300 euros.

Bonne chance with the bottle! :D

I agree with your max of €700 Gus but I'd bet it'd exceed €500, do you remember last year when some bidders went wild bidding for the Hennessy NA-Geanna (500+) and the Midletons. I must admit I put a few bids in but was blown away by those prices.

I hope you get a good price. May the luck of the Irish be with you.

I wish I knew; I bet it's awesome. I googled it but all I got were stories about dead dogs. Maybe late just means you can get a dog and waffle on the way home at the end of the night. Anyone up for for a dog 'n' waffle after the tasting tomorrow?

Looking forward to the Dog and Waffle. On the road up to Dublin now and I skipped lunch.:)
May have to wash it down with some John Power and son.
