I was, in my Father Dougal from Father Ted voice. Interesting site - I'd like to know a little bit more about the whiskies - like maybe which one is the grain?

just happened to find out, I know the guy personally who is running whiskey blender site, so of course i asked him the question, what is in it?

here is the reply;

"I'm sure you can appreciate the need to keep our cask selection top secret! However I'll blether more when I see you in May"

Called it Leap Year Legacy due to blending it on the 29th. I look forward to my experiment now.

I'd be far more interested in this if you could buy a miniature of each whisky first - I think if you're going to creat your own blend and dont want to fork out on heaps oof these bottles you need to get a better feel for each whisky than a one line description. Each on covers a wide range of whiskies. From my home blending experiments I can tell you that Caol Ila, Lagavulin and Laphroaig for example all have hugely different blending characteristics. Even regarding the cheaper ones are the young malt or grain - both are very very different in a blend.

It's a nice idea in some ways, and a bit of fun, but I'd be far more interested, and would probably do a few, if I could get even a 5cl sample of what I was working with.

I would be the exact same ... you really don't know what your getting and blending by numbers is really not meaningful or helpful in anyway.

I made a similar rule for my self.
Today a single box from whiskyblenders that Zoltan forced me to buy from...........
A box from whiskyauctions with 3 bottles
and a box from eBay with 4

Last month it was 9 so I've cut back a little. It's the sneaking them in that's the worse.
I try to get them delivered to work so no couriers arrived.

I took advantage of the reduction in the Bushmills 400th Anniversary blend (back to original rrp) to make a purchase from TWE. So i ensured i opened the package outdoors, and out came the damp cloth to wipe the annoying polystyrene dust (from the cheap polystyrene peanuts they package with) from both the bottles and the boxes -- inside and outside as they stuff more of this contaminant inside of the gift boxes.

Just to let you know ... and this is from the horses mouth. This blend is made with less than 5% grain whiskey the rest is single malt. It was supposed to be a single malt but Colm Egan thought it was missing something and after a bit of experimenting found that a touch of grain made it perfect for him at least. I personally love it but I have heard some dissenters ... but as ever all a matter of taste.

Looks good Adrian,
Has the 1780 on the right an italian tax band? If yes: have you ever had a bad experience with the content of such a bottle with tax band?
Can read some different reports in the web about such bottles.
