Is there some of Scotty's brew in the barrel on the bottom right?

Does the wife know ;)

Yes I must admit I like Galway Hooker and it's great to be able to get it on Draft in a lot of places in Galway.

How was the Bush 21yo, I've been a bit disappointed by the last one I had but that was a time when I was really into my big peat phase. I really probably should go back to it and give it another go.

I've always liked the Bush 21. It's a funny one though - very subtle mix of tastes I think. I drank it alongside the Bush 16 and the Knappogue 16 last night - despite being 5 years younger the other 2 are much heavier whiskeys. Definitely not the big bold flavours that would appeal to someone on a peat or sherry buzz but for me I always have one on the go.

It does vary from batch to batch and I think the earlier ones are heavier and more assertive - I finished a 2008 last night but my previous was a 2002. It's funny, I think, that Bushmills don't make a bigger deal of the year of release - they could easily have gone down the Midleton VR route and tried to drum up interest in different releases. You can barely make out the year on the label.

I'd love to see it at 46% and ncf though.

A 10 year old from the Macallan matured in sherry casks, with a beautiful Macardles traditional ale.

Ah now ..........i can see the frowns already. I truly can not find a better beer to go with Whiskey or Scotch than a big Mac and no cheese.
It strange i opened the Macallan last week and was now overly impressed but tonight i like it. I haven't drank since Thursday so that could be the reason.
You know the one "hunger it the best sauce" perhaps there is an equivalent saying for Whiskey. Thirst tempts the tastebuds or something.

Irish man cask strength ... For some reason I always get the impression that there is grain in this but that does deter me as I still like it

Also had a sherry cask sample of Midletons finest ... IDL if your listening you really need to do us a single cask sherry ... Wonderful stuff 8-)

I've been looking for a bottle of Cask Strength Irishman lately but it looks like a trip to the capital to replenish stocks.

Basil Hayden's 8yo ... this is a lovely easy drinking bourbon ... even glugable :o

However in saying that there is plenty of taste there too. Plenty of sweet as you would expect (Vanilla and ameretto) and some lovely wood spice and white pepper.

Very pleasing and is possibly my new favourite as I sometimes find certain Bourbons a bit too heavy at times.

Well worth a go and possibly the perfect bridge between Irish and US whiskey.

I'm trying some of the Whiskyblender stuff Zoltan put up. It smells very young nearly Poitín but surprisingly pleasant to drink.
I'm back to the double Mac now
Macardles and the Macallan.

Having a Benriach 12yo Horizons. An interesting triple distilled release from them, currently in stock in celtic whiskey shop. Was going to have just one but it's pretty good so I'm onto my 3rd. Time for bed methinks.

Aberlour. Heavy Sherry finish I find. Very similar to the Macallan I had last week,
Going down well.

A mug of Lyons tea. I'm on a quick break from dispensing to black stuff. Looking forward to breaking the seal on a bottle of Redbreast when I finally get home. Happy St. Patricks to all.

A little bit of pleasure and sorrow as I finish the last of my Greenspot old bottling.
I'd bough 3 bottles when I heard that they were changing the bottling. I wish i'd got a case now. I still like it more than the new one.
If anyone know where I can pick up more please tell me.

Balvenie cask finished bushmills. That's all i'll say except for this - I think Grants buying tullamore is a good thing! Oh and it's excellent by the way.

Last night ...

Connemara sherry cask ... mmmm ... I was not really into this last night ...

Jameson Select Reserve Small Batch ... much better but still only so so ... big of a chest infection hampering my enjoyment of whiskey me thinks.

Finished off with a Hewitts which of the 3 was for me last t=night the nicest ...

Strange really as it is a grain sweet Malt blend from IDL. Interesting how minor ailment affect your appreciation of whiskeys.

Also got a bit peckish so went for some Oak Smoked Cheddar and 15month aged Cheddar with a sweet and spicy tomato chutney on a variety of crackers. This I enjoyed them more than the whiskey last night 8-)

Try the smoked cheese with some Locke's 8yo. There is a good chance they will mesh well. (Whereas a truly smoky whiskey like Connemara doesn't.)
