So much for the chocolate makers.

I just found this too

I never knew that they did Whiskey too.
It's not on Irishwhiskeychaser site so it must be rare.

Great find. I'll leave the bidding to someone with deeper pockets.

The problem with bottles like these is that we have no way of knowing where the whiskey is from.

These spurious bottlings were 2 a penny back in the day and really very hard to verify unless you have solid information.

So I just ignore such bottlings unless I know where they were distilled.

It does seem to say pot still on the bottle though which may be worth researching but still a blend so don't think it is worth the asking money. Would be lovely to have as a curio though.

The Old Irish Gold I provided for the Presidents Tasting in November was an unattributed 15yo Pot Still bottled in the 70's and actually turned out to be a disappointment. So if I had paid $400 dollars I would have been a bit miffed.

It would make a great addition to the tasting at the end of the month.

Gallwey's are well known for their chocolates.

Too late,
It's already gone. DublinGus put the word out and made a couple of people happy tonight.
Great find all the same. It was well hidden in a search for Irish Whiskey.

Well it seems someone bought it, going to buy a bog oak myself! I dont think they ship to ireland so could be someone in US, ebay can be dogey but have got some good value bottles. Strange one this is it a blend or a pot still? The label seems it could be from the 60's? I knew their was a history of whiskey in Waterford but never heard of Gallways, still learning.

I'd heard of their chocolate but not the whiskey.
It appear to be a pot still blend.
Probably akin to Writers Tears? Which is bottled where? 8-)

Re: Auction Watch

Postby IrishWhiskeyChaser » Wed Feb 22, 2012 7:58 pm

The only real surprise is that the 5 Cadenhead mini's did reach the bottom estimate. I had my doubts but I suppose it is quite rate. All the Bushmills single casks were great bargains but not surprising prices for this sort of auction.

Lot 700 Cadenhead 5 minis Estimate £750-850 Hammers price £750

Lot: 706 | Estimate: £200 - £300 | Hammer: Not Yet Available (Possibly waiting for owner to accept or reject a under bid or not sold)

DALY'S TULLAMORE DISTILLERY MINIATURE

Lot 736 is four Bushmills, A regular but older White Bush signed by Master Distiller Frank Hardy.
A black bust in a decanter style bottle. A 12yo 1608 Special reserve and the Millennium 12yo edition also.

Estimate: £80 - £120 | Hammer: £120

Lot 758 2 Single casks from the late 1990's early 2000's again signed. probably 1 sherry & 1 Bourbon.

Estimate: £80 - £120 | Hammer: £140

Lot 759 a very interesting Millennium Malt pre selection. 1975 -1994 Obviously some one could not wait and had a few bottles removed before the Millennium. And a Bushmills Distillery reserve again both signed by Frank.

Estimate: £80 - £120 | Hammer: £150

Lot 760 a Millennium Malt and a single cask

All estimated 80-120 and all would be bargains if got at those prices but the highlight there has to be the Pre-Selection Millennium Malt.

Estimate: £80 - £120 | Hammer: £130

Lot 779 a 2000 Midleton VR Est £200-300

Estimate: £200 - £300 | Hammer: £160

Lot 800. Another rare chance to pick up a Coleraine 34yo Single Malt

Est €800-1000 it says with Presentation plaque but no mention of a box which is disappointing so possibly over valued.

Estimate: £800 - £100 | Hammer: £1000

Lot 826. 2004 Midleton Est £200-300 again a bit over cooked me thinks.

Estimate: £200 - £300 | Hammer: £160

Lot 826. 2001 Midleton Est £200-300

Estimate: £200 - £300 | Hammer: £170

Lot 907 2004 Midleton

Estimate: £200 - £300 | Hammer: £160

If it were here it would fetch some serious price i bet. Here's an example online :o

That would be a reasonable price if the box and all with it.

It got a mention in the Irish independent on Tuesday, That may have helped too

A rare Jameson Grace up for grabs on Ebay.

A lovely packaged 200ml bottle which is nearly like a Perfume bottle but I always thought it was nice.

A reasonable starting bid of £125 but also a reserve on it so not sure where that is.

Jameson Grace

Released for either the far east/asia market or their duty free.

However a load were sold off in Midleton in the late 90's. Probably just finishing up on the stock.

A nice Jameson to have in the collection and these very rarely come up.

The last one I saw on Ebay was about 3-4 years ag and went for €250 but another around that time went for around €80.

Nice find,
I'd be reluctant to buy of a seller with only one previous sale.
I know they have to start somewhere but for such a expensive purchase I'd still be careful.

Both eBay and Paypal should cover it. It's a real pain to have to try and get a refund from a seller that is reluctant to give it to you. You only have a limited time to alert eBay. The worry i have here is that the seller has time to take your money and close their account with Paypal and eBay. Because they are not an established seller they don't have to worry about their reputation.
It's easy to set up an email account/ Paypal account if you have numerous credit cards and start a new eBay account without too many questions.

I'll keep an eye on it to see what happens. I would love to have one in my collection all the same.

I believe so. Anytime ive ever had a problem on ebay I have been able to get my money back if item didnt arrive or winner never bought it (though there is a timeframe as mentioned above). You could possibly use a credit card to pay via paypal and if there are problems complain to your cc company.

Has anyone an idea of a fair price for those Jameson 12 and 15 year old's from the 70's I think?

I'm using Adrian's site as an reference again,
The 12 https://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285 ... on12yo.jpg
The 15 https://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285 ... on15yo.jpg

I've seen various prices on whiskyauctions but it seems that the 15 with an English label gets a better price, can this be so?
The 12's often seem very faded and rarely have boxes.

I've been looking for the Bow street distillery reserve from the early 2000's https://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285 ... istRes.jpg
and the Midleton one of the same era
https://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285 ... eserve.jpg
Thank you Adrian for the use of your photos. I don't know how many time I've used the site reference something.

No Problem Willie, I've been lacking of late and have not properly updated as there are now a load of bottle picture I have on my computer that I have not posted up. The problem now is that I don't what I have up and what I don't

Anyway Paypal states.

If you use PayPal, eBay Buyer Protection is free for nearly all purchases. If you pay another way we'll still try to help, but we recommend everyone uses PayPal's secure service.

No idea what nearly all means though.

But then it goes...

All purchases by eligible buyers that meet policy conditions and do not fall within an exclusion or coverage limitation are covered by eBay Buyer Protection. Please note that the eBay Buyer Protection policy applies only to the transaction - it is not any kind of product warranty, services guarantee, or a solution for buyers’ remorse. To take advantage of the eBay Buyer Protection policy, buyers should first contact the seller and attempt to resolve the issue directly. If the buyer doesn’t hear from the seller or can’t resolve the issue with the seller, the buyer can file a case under the eBay Buyer Protection policy.

When eBay users are involved in an eBay Buyer Protection case, eBay may provide or give them access to each other’s name, user ID, email address, other contact information and other information relating to the case, including, without limitation, any relevant documentation obtained from a third party.

Buyers and sellers permit us to make a final decision, in our sole discretion, on any case that a buyer files with eBay under the eBay Buyer Protection Policy.

So basically I think your covered...

So that's some of the terms and conditions we tick as read and agree too.
There are facilities I paypal that allow you to make additional payments to sellers if postage costs are larger than agreed. I've used them in the past. I'm sure there are terms and conditions that cover that too.
Do you know much about those 70's Jameson's?

Sorry forgot about that part.

These were all going for 80-120 a few years back and you could get some real bargains. Also on ebay when a few pop up in a row or together you usually can pick one up for fairly reasonable money. I've been half looking for a 15yo myself but will not pay too much for it as I want to open it.

I honestly don't think they are worth 2-300 as I've seen them retailed at as they do come up quite regularly.

And £400 on TWE

Just keep your eyes peeled and be patient ;)

Here's a chance for someone to get their hands on a very nice edition of The Whisky Distilleries Of The United Kingdom. it's 1967 and in rough condition. The only problem is that the seller doesn't send to Ireland. If there are any UK members out there looking for an interesting piece of reading you should bid,
