Postby IrishWhiskeyChaser » Fri Dec 02, 2011 11:04 am

Okay the results are in and we have a clear winner ... a solid second place and joint 3rd places.

The Irish Whiskey Society's Irish Whiskey of the year is ...

1st Place

Power's 12yo John's Lane Release 46%

2nd Place

Redbreast 12 Cask Strength

3rd Place

Connemara Bog Oak
Tyrconnell 11yo Sherry Finish Whisky Live Ed

The voting was put to members and 17 responded.

Members were to vote for the 3 favourite releases of the year. A very simple system of members asked to vote 1-3 in order of preference. 1st was awarded 3points 2nd 2points and 3rd 1 point.

Over all results was as follows.

Powers Johns Lane : 39

Redbreast CS : 18

Connemara Bog Oak : 10
Tyrconnell 11 Whisky Live : 10

Midleton Barry Crockett : 8
Green Spot : 4
Connemara 18yo Amont : 3
Greenore 18yo : 3
Irishman CS : 3
Greenore 19yo (T2) : 2
Kilbeggan 18yo : 1
Writers Tears CS : 1

Any bottling receiving any votes is still a good mark of confidence

Was it right to include the Connemara Bog Oak in this year's line up? It hasn't been released yet!

I actually didn't know at the time I did up the voting card if it was on release so I included it as quite a number of members (over half) have had the chance to try it so it was a no brainer to go in. It's not a case of a in dept tasting survey as many people had not tasted many of the line up but more of a popular vote.

But judging by the voting it is highly regarded and justified it's inclusion.

I have been trying to get this going for 3 years now so in the end just went for a basic vote and finally got something on the go. We can tighten up on criteria as we go forward.
