Belfast Whiskey bar

Looking for the name of the bar in Belfast that has it's own whiskey (own distillery?) and will only sell it in the bar. I believe there was also a song written about it.

The only one I can think of is the Palace Bar in Dublin. I remember reading about a pub in county Antrim that has one but cant remember where. Think it was near International airport but cant for the life of me remember where. Maybe someone else knows?

If it helps, the song as I remember, was about a gentleman who frequented the bar and drank only the whiskey from the bar which was never sold except by the glass, but when the costumer died, they auctioned off a bottle and gave the money to the wife, was the first time they had ever sold a bottle. If I could find the name of the song, I think it's the same as the bar.

and with a lot of rooting around, I found what I was looking for, and it's not a pub in Belfast but in Portadown, it's called McConville's.

Thanks for the help anyway, I'll see if I can stop there when we are there next year and see if it's true that they make their own whiskey and won't sell a bottle of it for taking away.

Podhreen Mare is the whiskey made by Cooleys for The Thatch bar in Broughshane
close to Ballymena.

If McConvilles is still on the go today they are certainly not making their own. I don't even think they even have their own bottling in the pub as one of us would have heard of it by now. Certainly could of happened in it's earlier history though...

Thanks, we're headed over next year and I'm just making plans on places to visit/things to see type of stuff, if it was true it would be fun to go to, but if not, I'll look up other whiskey places to visit while we're there.

McConville's seems to be still there: see Wikipedia page on Portadown: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portadown.

A lot of pubs would have bought whiskey in casks and bottled it on the premises or served it from the cask, possibly McConville's did this.

I have an idea a pub in Portaferry has a special bottling from Cooley. There are two pubs in Waterford that have their own bottlings still (but aren't saying what's in the bottle).

We were offered £1000.00 for a bottle in december by a customer and it was refused!!!!!. The story from the song by james keelaghan is true thank you folks!!!!

Yeah we still have 18 40oz bottles with labels of the original Mcconvilles whiskey in the bar. If any visitor from this site comes over when on holidays you will get a treat of it on the house!!!! Make sure you ask for Andy.
